Hey guys, I'm new here from Harmony Central. :)
Saw this on Craigslist about five minutes ago, so I thought I'd finally post (after lurking for a few days) and do what I do best: ask questions!
Crate Blue Voodoo Half-Stack for $250!
Figured I could meet him halfway (I think he's 6 hours from where I'm at) to skip shipping costs. Would you guys say the amp's worth it? I know nothing about this amp, since I decided to ask you guys before googling.
Can anyone, perhaps, give me a breakdown on pros and cons?

Thanks guys.

I tried these when they first came out. I thought they sucked pretty bad.

there's a good chance the cab by itself would be worth the asking price?

some of the Blue Voodoo cabs came loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's, and think they're birch?

defenantly worth researching and learning about the cab.

no idea on the amp, check completed listings on ebay.

I was a Crate dealer at the time these came out. I think they just spelled Doodoo wrong. ;)

are the cabs doodoo also?

Haha, wow, I didn't think they were all that bad. I watched a youtube clip of a guy playing some metal-type stuff.. didn't sound too horrible.
Maybe his was heavily-modified though?

We are super gear snobs here. Saying you found a deal on a Crate here is like saying you found a great deal on a Hyundai at the BMW forums.

Ah man.. maybe my budget's not cool enough to hang with you guys, then. :scared:

Nah man everyone has to go with what they have to work with. No one is gonna dis on you bc of you finances.

I had a blue voodoo once. It was my first tube amp I ever owned. I didn't think it was that bad. The thing with the Blue Voodoo's is you need to keep the highs low bc it does have a very solid state 'esk high end fizz to it.

Its a joke, I am sure we all owned Crates at one time I know I did.

It takes time but its worth it to hold off buying that new piece of gear and buying something real nice when you save up enough money, I think thats what some of us are trying to say.

If your in a Poison cover band, then by all means jump all over that thing.

If not, move on to something a little more versatile.

I was dealer and sold a bunch of these. They were poorly built (cheap components) but I saw very few of them come back for repair...and they actually sounded decent. I think the price is right...this could be a good setup for you until you have the funds to upgrade. As long as its not abused, you should be able to easily get your money back out of it when the time comes.

I had a V30 Blue Voodoo cab. I thought it was a great cab. The other guitarist in my old band had one too. He still has his and says he wont part with it. He also had the head  didn't keep it long.

That's not a V30 cab though. They had a badge in the bottom corner.

Haha, I feel ya, EXP. I was just jokin' too.
I guess the head may not be for me after all, but, I'm going to email the guy about the cab..

I forgot to mention I could either buy this stack or my friend's B-52 AT-100 half-stack for $300.. if he finally decides he wants to sell it to me.
I'm thinking the B-52 will be better for me. I dug the clean and gain tones at low volume, so I'm sure I'd like it a lot when cranked. :D

The AT-100 is a great low budget head.

Leave the Crate cab alone. Not V30s.

Why not look into a Blackstar HT-5? It should be around your budget, and it'll sound infinitely better.

Well, the thing that would bother me about the HT-5 is clean headroom at gig volumes.
Though I've heard that it sounds amazing. I'm thinking of picking up a low-wattage tube head sometime in the future for recording purposes.. :D
And, I sent an email to the guy already, haha. I only asked what kind of speakers were in the cab, and how much he'd let the cab only go for. worth a shot.

where are you located, maybe you're close enough to a forum member to pick up a deal on some sloppy seconds?

for bargain heads that kickass, Peavey is hard to beat! Ultra Plus, Butcher, etc.

Funny you mentioned the Peavey Ultra+, I found a guy willing to sell me a half-stack for $800.. but I'm guessing that's BS, because the heads usually only go for $250-$400, right? And I heard the cabs are garbage. I'm gonna try to get him to go down on price for the head.

And I live about 45 minutes away from Las Cruces, NM. I don't know if any forumites around here live within a 6-hour-drive radius. :dunno:
