Peavey amps are great and can be had for CHEAP, look into the VTM, Butcher, Ultra Plus.....

VTMs and Butchers sound FANTASTIC boosted.

Hell the XXX can go for as low as $500 and are AWESOME amps...... I'd love to have one laying around just because they sound great and are killer workhorse amps.

Funny you mentioned the Peavey Ultra+, I found a guy willing to sell me a half-stack for $800.. but I'm guessing that's BS, because the heads usually only go for $250-$400, right? And I heard the cabs are garbage. I'm gonna try to get him to go down on price for the head.

And I live about 45 minutes away from Las Cruces, NM. I don't know if any forumites around here live within a 6-hour-drive radius. :dunno:

yea, that's way too much for the half stack. even if the Peavey cab had upgraded speakers it would be lucky to bring much over $200.

hell, Marshall cabs are down in the $300's, and good high quality cabs like Splawn etc. are getting around $500.

but yea, the head would be worth snagging.

probably not too many members from New Mexico, maybe Albuquerque or Sante Fe? HC used to have somebody from Hobbs or Carlsbad.

I'd like to see a three amp blind shootout with a Blue Voodoo, JVM and something high end like a Bogner or Diezel.

Then see who here can actually pick which is which.

Yeah, I just asked him how low he'd go on the head.
And as for a cab, I'm talking with the guy from AB Custom Audio about building me a PPC212-style clone cab, I think he's gonna charge me $165 shipped. You guys should check him and his stuff out, it's pretty solid. Never had a cab from him, but I talked with a member from HC who vouches for him dilligently.
And I'm buying used speakers for it, so a custom cab coming to a total of about ~$280 is pretty sweet to me.

I'd love to have an Ultra+, I heard their gain is amazing and the cleans are good, and for the price, I wouldn't complain.
If I could find members from Alb or Santa Fe, that'd be great to buy gear from them (if they had what I wanted :P), especially amps/cabs, to skip shipping costs.
Shipping a cab =

Great idea! I would bet that many a tone snob would embarass themselves in that scenario :D

not a big fan of them. I had one for about a month and thought it sounded like shit...

then I happened to see marty friedman play through one at a guitar clinic and shortly thereafter saw the sammy hagar band and was impressed.

Yes, there's alot of corksniffing mentality around here (myself included). I say if you're really on a budget it would be something to look at as a "first stack" type of thing. After all, you can always send it to trace at voodoo amps to get modded as your budget expands. It's better than some of the solid state stuff in that price range.

Overall I do think they do suck, but I have heard some good tones coming from them.

 I'd hold out for a used XXX or 6505/5150II. Killer amps for the money!

I'm interested in getting a used JSX or 6505/5150, but I haven't really heard much of/about the cleans from the 6505/5150.
I'm also pretty interested in the new 3120.. It sounds good, from what I've heard! There happens to be one at the GC in El Paso, so I'm gonna try it out whenever I head over there. :D

Cleans on the 5150/6505 suck. Cleans on the 5150 II/6505+ are barely passable.

I like the JSX(Never owned one)
Had a 5150 Block letter
XXX
and a 5150 II
They all sounded good for the money I had into them.
Marty Friedman made that Crate sound KILLA!!!
