I have an Ecstasy Classic loaded w/ EL34s and would like to get the aggressive Uberschall tones every once in a while. Will this amp with the Uberschall pedal get me close?

I think you'd have better luck with eq/boost than the uber pedal.

The clean channel on the classic certainly lets the character of drive pedals shine through. In my experience though, the gain channels on the xtc classic still dominate the tone. Drive pedals seem to color the tone and certainly add another dimension but it still sounds like a classic to me. That being said I use my loop as my master volume so all my pedals sit in front of the amp you might get different results if they are in your loop.

Does anyone know if the "uber mod" applies to the XTC classic as it does the other models of XTC?

I agree. I would add a gain or overdrive pedal in front of the gain channels.

The Uberschall pedal is not nearly as aggressive as the Uberschall amp. I have both the pedal and a Rev Blue. I was surprised at the lack of gain the Uber pedal has on tap. I use it primarily for mid gain sounds.

Wow, that's surprising. I don't know anything about the Uber pedal, but I assumed it would be a high gain monster for obvious reasons. Seems like a huge misstep, IMO.

I have the Classic as well and no boost can take it even close to that sound. Just not that type of amp. I have the Red pedal. It can get pretty mean sounding through the clean channel and I imagine the Uber pedal will get you somewhat close to the actual Uber sound.

The Red pedal through a good clean channel actually sounds and responds very much like the Ecstasy. Not exact but close.

That's strange. The Red pedal can actually get a bit more aggressive than the Ecstasy. I guess the monstrous power amp plays a big part in the Uber sound?

Agreed.

Don't get me wrong, the Uber is a great sounding pedal. For me, it works out great using it like a 3rd channel to complement my Uberschall. It definitely has the Uber flavor, which makes it seem more like the medium gain channel of the Uber if it were a 3 channel amp.

I agree that Bogner missed an opportunity by not making it as aggressive and as high gain as the amp it is named for though. I don't have experience with the Ecstasy pedal, but from clips I've heard it has more gain on tap than the Uber pedal.

I had the same experience when trying out the Uber and Red pedals side-by-side, and was surprised by the Uber pedal's lack of gain and stiffer, more mid focused tone when compared to my experience with a real Uber and the Red pedal. The Red definitely has more saturated gain and a juicier feel.

Honestly I find the plexi mode takes pedals a lot better than the clean channel on the XTC classic but ymmv.
