Transformers are the same quality Heyboer's as the original Helios. The "filtering" was changed to quiet down the hum and i heard they updated the board, maybe for less noise (filtering). I have a newer Helios that sounds killer.....I also had one of the first run Helios's that i only sold to buy an engagement ring. My new Helios is definitely quieter and really sounds great! I play it more than my SLO lately. I beleive Reinhold himself wired the newer ones as mine has his initials written inside the chasis. The build quality and wiring is exceptional and is quality throughout!

Maybe they underestimated the build times and costs ....i'm not surprised about a price increase and im not holding it against Bogner! Bottomline is the Helios is a quality amp with killer Plexi and Modded Marshall tones. The Suhr SL68 is $3995....Friedman is $3699....Metro Plexi is around that price as well....they all have their own thing going with the modded Marshall Plexi.

I would imagine most who are bashing the Helios have never owned one or even played thru one. Reinhold makes quality stuff and knows tone.....the Helios is no exception!
My first run had Classic Tone Transformers

Guess I'm wrong then. Thought they had Heyboer. ....the choke does say " Classic Tone" so I'm sure you're correct.
There OT isn't bad but the PT's aren't very good imo. Any of their transformers need the thin mounting legs supported with a decent mount. I could bend the OT over with one finger damn near.

i have one, and must say a very disappointing one, and decided to resolve it out myself.

might as well be soldano for an extra $1k+ more for sure. it's build quality is unrivaled n exemplary, let alone the components choice. or to sum it up, ive read too much 'plexi this', 'plexi that', so why not get a REAL plexi instead? we're stalling here.

helios' trannies were custom Classic Tone irons alright. i found out after a lot of digging in the net, and asking the company (bogner of course) directly with no results, hence the dissection. color codes n designations in PT leads corresponds to their standard trannies so far, although there are minor variations.

I have a classic tone output tranny in a 2204 build. I really like it. Nice crisp and crunchy tones. That said, they are considerably cheaper than a lot of the big boys and in bulk, even cheaper. How does that result in a price hike?? I suppose they might be custom wound for bogner but still. My guess is he saw the price of the other big boys and saw that if someone is willing to spend 3k for an amp, they will pay a couple hundred more.

When is the last time any of you guys just plugged into an older Marshall and turned her up? I mean seriously? It's an eye opening experience when you've been going down the Mod road for a while with blinders on. All the sudden you realize it been right in front of you the whole time. You just have to find a good Marshall and it will give most of us everything we need. Everything you hear in your head, but you keep missing the mark with the mods. It's all in there.....trust me. I'm not talking down to any of you, im just talking from my own experience after years of time and money wasted. An old Marshall (a good one) and maybe a boost. Done.

Or a 2204 or JMP tweaked lightly here or there and with good components. Turn it up and you are right, bam! With a hot pup you have vintage high gain. Throw a boost or OD on top and done. That's my sound, I def will not be buying a 3 k amp that is for sure. I have been getting Killer recorded tone with my 82 JCM800 as well. They cut and don't turn to fizz or mush in recordings.
