Bogner Ubercab: anyone here ever swap out the speakers for Greenbacks and remove the insulation?

Getting bored with my Ubercab and thinking about swapping speakers (it has the stock 75/v30 x pattern). Has anyone here swapped their speakers for Greenbacks and removed the insulation?

I have an Ubercab.
That is exactly what I plan on doing.
I really do not like the mix.
I'm not a fan of the gt75 speakers.
I do like the 75 creambacks mixed with v30.
I have those in 2x12 over sized cabs.
I also have a bogner cab with all v30s
And I love that cab as well.

Haven't removed the foam in mine, but I've tried lots of different speakers in it (including a quad of Fane F90's and currently all JBL's) and it seems to be one of those cabs that even with radically different speakers just doesn't change that much in overall sound. My Kerry Wright on the other hand sounds like a completely different cab every time I do a speaker swap (even if just one or 2)

Thanks. I honestly think the foam is a big part of the sound of these cabs.

I would guess so too, but haven’t heard it without it. Maybe without I’d hear bigger differences in speaker swaps

I like the stock uberkab.

That said, if you DONT like it, it seems to be a cabinet that retains alot of its "native" sounds regardless of speakers - whether that is because of the foam, I have no idea.

I would go more extreme if you want a big change in the sound of the cabinet especially if you like greenbacks - I would talk to Jim at @Scumback Speakers

Dude knows his shit and can help you get what youre looking for

I swapped mine for those Stan-spec'd Weber speakers at one time. I left the foam in it. It still sounded good. I wound up selling those speakers to a fellow Rig-Talker in Kansas and putting the stock ones back in.

I like the stock speaker setup with Marshalls and Bogners.

I changed speakers from my Cameron cab that I have poly fil in to my Friedman with no polyf fil. It’s on the back panel like the Bogners. I definitely prefer with poly fil. Tighter bass imo.

Try moving the 75's to the bottom (from X pattern)... then 75's to the top. You might like the change. Also, you might be able to attach the back panel backwards temporarily to hear it without the poly fil.

All of my Cameron cabinets had poly fil on the backs... I removed it since I preferred the more organic sound.

My Bogner cab with poly fill has a balanced tone with a nice deep tight bass for a standard size cab. I bet it sounds great with greenbacks, mine has v30s.

If you've got the older rear-loaded 8 ohm cab, I reckon putting in 16 ohm Greenbacks will change the sound significantly.

I've done the swap with foam intact and overall wasn't happy with results. Its a dark sounding cab no matter what speaker you put in them. I ended up putting it back to stock x-pattern. It sounds best with bright and spikey speakers, hence the V30/75 combo. That cab was engineered for them. Looking back I wish I would've tried it without the panel foam.

Dave had a great idea and I would take his advice if you're looking to experiment (y)
