I couldn't quite figure out how to word the heading, but has anyone ever dealt with something common item that has a lifetime, swap it out guarantee? I'm curious because when I worked at Guitar Center, I bought a bunch of Monster Cable for wiring up my rack and 4x12s and such and haven't ever had any problems with those, but a few years ago I purchased a Livewire Elite Silent 20ft instrument cable that has a lifetime, swap it out guarantee. When I bought it, I lived like 20 min from Guitar Center and could easily swap it. Now, I live like an hour and a half to two hours away from the closest one. I got onto the online chat to ask about how to swap it since I don't live near the store, and the dipshit just said yeah you can swap it, just take it in to any store. I told him I live nearly 2 hours away from the closest store and it's been crickets for nearly 25 minutes.

I didn't think that when I started the conversation, that I'd be back in town this Sunday for mother's day and can just swing it by and swap it out, but I'm curious if Sweetwater, for example on items like that, would be happy to just ship a new one out with a return label inside since the customer isn't near any of their stores. I always hear how accommodating Sweetwater is to their customers, so curious if anyone has had an experience like mine that Sweetwater has taken care of them. I may just switch over and be happy to let Guitar Center know.

That’s a good question! I have swapped items & received printable return labels. They covered shipping. Sometimes they won’t even ask you to return the item (depending on cost). If a rep ever tried to charge shipping on a warrantied item from a single brick & mortar location who also markets online, then I would ask what the incentive would be to purchase from their company vs their competition whom are networked nationwide? Also it’s technically their duty to file the paperwork with the manufacturer for them to be reimbursed not ours. Just my .02 personally I would purchase cables through Sweetwater before any other dealer especially if you don’t have any local shops nearby.

"Do you wanna warranty w/ your strings for $45 a month ? "

I couldn't say. I bought Monster cable and it was complete crap so I threw it away. I bought a Mogami and it lasted a year. Not making a drive to Austin GC for the swap out so I threw it away too. There is a GC down in New Braunfels now, which is closer, but I'm not spending $80 on a cable that only lasts a year.

Thanks for the heads up on Livewire elite silent. More overpriced junk. Will avoid. Hope you are well Matt!!!

Which Mogami’s did you get? I bought a shit load of platinums last year from Sweetwater so far so good fingers crossed. 🤞🏽jumperz seems to be legit. They are made in Detroit & very down to earth people. Honestly probably the same quality as Mogami.

Mogami Gold. Granted I did do a lot of gigs with that cable but still, an $80 cable should hold up longer than a $30 cable. I paid $25 for some basic cable with switchcraft ends a local guy makes and sells at his mom n pop shop and it lasted 5 years. I just grabbed a two pack of Ernie Ball 20 footers for $60 the other day. The ends seem kinda like cheap junk but I haven't tried them yet. I'm pretty much done with the high dollar cable racket unless they give 'em to me free.

Most definitely…No reason they shouldn’t be built like a tank. Man there’s so much margin in those freakin Mogami cables.. I feel like Mogami is for studio guys.. Gigging is a whole different animal. Guy at Sweetwater is like my brother so I can get them pretty inexpensive & always willing to help a brother out. Just have to dm me if you find a cable you want to try there, & I can have it shipped to you. As far as supporting your local mom & pop/having something custom made that is 100% the way to go. The cable market is a complete racket…. I also grabbed a spool of George L’s & the connectors for my pedals & surprisingly that’s my quietest cable yet… Even for guitars.. To light of a gauge for gigging tho.. Need a Kevlar wrapped cable that can double as a belt or shoe laces for that wardrobe you’re always talking about..

I just think Mogami is overrated. It's a good cable that costs 30% more than it should. It's a sales job. Monster is even worse, those cables are like putting a blanket over your speakers IME. I loaded up on a bunch thinking they were the "best". The guitar cables didn't last a year. The speaker cable, which I was always extra careful with, didn't last six months.

I switched to George L's and realized how bad the Monsters were, but they weren't very reliable. I was always fiddling with them. I still have a bunch of them around but never use them.

I have a coily cable I got in the 90's that sounded as clear and open as a George L, go figure. I redid the ends on it so many times the short section just kept getting shorter and shorter so I finally retired it. I got it in a box somewhere around here. Wife bought me a D'Addario. Lasted a year. Then she bought me golden Dimarzio cable. Seems a bit treblier but it works. We'll see how it holds up.

So are most of the people here...
I’m not 🥺😂 I mean I’m getting there slowly but surely. Is 34 considered middle aged yet? I just know my kids have aged me by 10 years atleast… @VonBonfire thanks for the info man! Definitely lmk if you end up finding “the one” that outlasts them all. Cable game sucks bro. Nervous about these Mogami’s.. fuckers better hold strong. @Shreddy Mercury I just recently came back to RT. I was on a couple month hiatus. My bad man 😂 clicking through random threads, & talking my talk brotha.

You are in the best years of your life bro, enjoy every moment of every day, especially your kids. Good luck with the cables!!!

I needed this. 🙏🏽 Thanks brother 🤙🏽
You bet! It's great having some young blood on this forum. I keep thinking back to that era of my life. I miss my kids being little, living down by the beach, having four pizza joints, a convenience store, a grocery store, and a hardware store within two blocks of me. We had a lot of good times as a family even if I was a little light on gigs at the time!

Oh man that sounds like the life!!! You wouldn’t have to drive anywhere 😳 I bet the family had a blast. 4 pizza joints in a 2 block radius is wild. I’d get fat so quick 😂 Everyone tells me it’s the small things that matter so I’m really doing my best to make sure we all live in the moment, & build those memories together. I’m sure before I know it they will all be grown up living their lives.. I don’t like thinking about that too much but it also keeps me spontaneously conjuring up random family things, even if they’re small. It should all add up hopefully. I need to make sure they visit their old man in the future, & on the regular. Also when I need assistance on a B double E double R - U- N. 🍻 lol

Well, not sure it was "the life" or not but it was def a good time and place to have young kids. St. Pete Beach circa 2009. Worked out on the beach and would come home for a couple cold tall boys and pizza afterwards. I've done enough beach days to gag a maggot. Only time I wanna be out there now is at sunset, it's like a different world. The TX beaches aren't the same. Enjoy it bro, it's all gone in the blink of an eye. I'll be an old man before I know it...

I was just kidding! I'm older than you so jokes on me lol.
