20th Shiva w or w/o reverb (any tone differance?}
or
Mesa JP2C

Both close in price new.(i know,i know. the Shiva with verb is +$300)

So,
Thoughts. Input.

I switched from a Mark III to an older Shiva. It was a good move for me, the Bogner is quicker to dial in and has separate controls for each channel.

I haven't looked at the JP so I'm not sure if that would even be an issue. The JP is probably going to have a lot more available gain and tone control.

I finally played a JP2C, its a better sounding amp to my ears than a MKIII. I've had a purple and a red stripe, and the JP2C is more organic/open while still having that growl similar to my SRG C+. All 3 channels are great. Not played a Shiva but I know they have a great clean...but so does the JP. Try the Mesa first, you can always return it to Sweetwater.

I like my JP2C. The GEQ's are the best thing ever for my style, that's where the magic in Boogie amps lays. You can shape your tone more than just dial in a tone like all other amps. Having a clean channel is OK but I love being able to boost the lead with GEQ2 and use GEQ1 for tone shaping. Another big plus is how incredibly quiet the amp is even with the gain at 10!

I like simpler amps, and love the Shiva 20th, but the JP2C is a badass amp too. You're comparing two very, very different amps. Both are very versatile. Both have incredible cleans. The JP2C is more versatile in range of cruch to distorted, but the Shiva 20th in modern mode and boosted can do anything without a pedal. The Shiva 20th has a mid shift which scoops out the mids and lends it more towards metal sounds, but of course the JP2C has sliders and all kinds of other options. Mesa includes power options which are very nice to have, but the Shiva 20th sounds good at any volume. The main benefit of the Mesa power settings aren't for getting lower volumes in my opinions. 5w mode doesn't sound good to me unless you're cranking the clean channel or something.

Instead of weighing a deal between two amps, just look for an amp which suits you the most. You're not going to get a good comparison between these two because they're just too different. Honestly man, after thousands and thousands of wasted dollars flipping gear, it really comes down to what suits you and how you like to use it. Don't waste money buying gear to try out because you'll just waste money, and you'll waste time that could be spent crafting your sound on an amp you know you'll like.

I've owned both and this is true. Both great but very different amps. It all what you're looking for. One thing I can say is that the Shiva is the more Marshall of the two.

-I'd personally take the MESA, even thou the it was the hardest MESA to dial in I've ever played-(owned a MK IV)-

Owned an MkII MkIII MkIV and a MkV so I know all about Meas doesn't do eq at 12oclock.
But I was hoping the JP was a bit less pain in the azz.

Just try some of the suggested settings that come with the manual and tweak from there. Easy.

Mesa all the way, I never was able to connect with the Bogner sound....don't like them. The JP2C seems like a dream amp to me!

Thanks.
I have a Quad Preamp and never had any problems dialing in a few different tones.
So I was hoping the JP would be plug n play

The only thing I don't like about the JP is how sensitive the eq is. One little bump and your holy grail tone goes to shit real fast.
