Bogner XTC3534... What about the Red channel?

It’s similar to the EVH but the blue channel on the Bogner is more versatile with the boost

I'm using my EVH 50W (6L6) as my main gigging amp (+vertical 2x12) when I'm not wanting to haul around the Invader+4x12,
but it's an amp of compromises for me too. For one, that plastic-y mid-thing in the red channel (even after toning it down with a pair of 5751's).

Ideally I use 3 (or 4) channels with switchable fx-loop, but since my EVH is the v1 without concentric green/blue channel knobs, there's a compromise there as well.
So, while expensive here (closer to $3k), the Bogner seems like a good alternative...not too big, not too heavy. If the Bogner can add more of the classic Marshall-esque rawness/kerrang, while having enough low-end and gain, it would work great for me. Oh, and a very clean clean channel is always a must for me.
High gainers that I tried or owned with awesome cleans:
Diezel Dmoll
Engl Invader
Engl SE
Mesa DC5
Mesa Mark IV
Mesa Mark V:25

Well it’s not a Marshall. If you’re looking for that kerang you need to get a Marshall. It seems to have everything you’re looking for through.

Interesting, as those albums were recorded with Gallien Krueger solid state amps.
I love both of those records. 7th Son may be my fav Maiden album.
I think I'm going to try the c81 mod and see what happens

How did your C81 mod turn out? I'm thinking about doing it to my Bogner 3534.

The C81 mod did not make a big difference to my ears. Lowered the gain maybe half of a single o'clock amount of turning the knob IIRC.

For me the 35 sounded better than the 50. The 50 was much more versatile in the gain range, but the tone had a smooth round vibe to it that sounded woolly, especially on low E-string notes. The 35 was less versatile but had a growl and bite that I couldn't get from the 50. YMMV.
