I not that big a fan of his recorded material (just not my taste), but I really like listening and watching his live concerts. He seems to open up and "go for it" when playing live. I really like that kind of playing...fun!

Yep, he really does go for it live. God forbid you get into his show though and decide to stand up. You WILL get yelled by the jazz snobs that apparently find it "uncool" to have a good time.

This is where i'm at. I've bought a few of his recent releases and I enjoyed them, but his live stuff is off the hook. Really enjoy watching him play and live he takes it to another level. My favorite playing and songs are the stuff he has done with Black Country, but I'm a Glenn Hughes freak, so that stands to reason.

I must be out of the loop because I thought everyone loved him  I haven't listened to much of his because I'm not a huge blues fan but have only ever heard positive things

I'm with you. I never heard or read bad things about him either. I thought he was well liked and respected...

I can't stand the guy.

I was driving into work one morning, just like only 2 blocks from the parking garage, and they held up all lanes of traffic to let the Bonamassa tour tractor trailer back into some alley. Probably cost me at least 5 minutes from getting that first cup of coffee. Refused to listen to him since.

Now that's some funny shit!

One thing I keyed in on was some kind of controversy about him scoping up various collector guitars, some known to be stolen from famous guitarists. Maybe in this case the criticism is lack of concern and "me centered". Do not know the truth about these comments, but definitely fits the "hard to like" guy framing, beyond his skill which is good. Looking forward to the new Black Country Communion stuff with Hughes that is supposedly in the works.

I work with Joe,
So you do not know the truth, but still feel the need to write this?
Why would we want a stolen guitar?

Whatever, I said I did not know. But you can read about some of the association here and your bosses comments. Go take out your venom on Guitar Player Magazine and have a nice day. http://www.guitarplayer.com/gear/1012/j ... l-is/58768

What is a good album to listen to to get a good representation of what Joe does?

There's a bunch. "Live at the Greek Theater" would be a good one. Not as focused/more varied than other albums. You can sign-up at his website and get emails (a lot of them ;) ) with links to videos and downloads. His marketing team is all over it

Joe is great. The problem is that the world contains too many stupid people. Jealous people, too.

I kinda don't like the stage persona- slicked hair, shades, suit, but anybody that can do this with a Strat is ok in my book. Amazing tone and ripping.

Agreed! In fact, the stage persona is kinda distracting to me. That hair...oh the humanity.  But the playing...oh man!

I think he's a great player. Like most of the hate toward famous guitarists, I assume a lot of negativity is just envy.

Like others mentioned, I'm not a big fan of his studio material but the dude is a fantastic player, worked his butt off, paid his dues, and puts on a great show. Gets great tones too.

Maybe he's not bluesy enough for old school blues guys, not heavy enough for hard rock/metal guys, not good-looking enough for Mayer-types, too technical for 'rootsy' guys, etc.

To be fair that article does make him sound like a tool. Basically says he knows where Claptons $500,000 stolen guitar is but he won't say where. Would be different if he said that he told the authorities or Clapton.

To be really fair, Joe said he wasn't going to say anything more. That was to the interviewer. No one knows if he told the authorities and/or Clapton. The article also didn't say anything about Joe "scooping [sic] up various collector guitars, some known to be stolen from famous guitarists." as was mentioned...

Exactly, who knows. That's why I said "the article makes him seem like a tool".

Agreed. That was lame.

Just read the interview.
Why in the hell would you want to attach yourself to admitting knowing where claptons stolen guitar is located??

That's just not cool. :aww:
