Boogie JP2C (Coming Back)

Update: my first jp2 definately had a issue with ch2, i bought another jp over the weekend and compared both of them and it wasnt even close. I gotta ship the broken one back to the dealer today for my refund.

Now after spending more time with the amp i can say i really like it, definately glad i got one.
Looks like im gonna be selling my mark v haha. Overall the jp is a really nice amp and i like it better than the mkiv-a that i owned and the mkv. I havent played a original 2c+ before so i cant comment on how it compares. I dont flip amps these days like used to, ive been playing most of my amps for the past 5 to 10 yrs now. The jp is the first amp ive bought in a couple years and i think i will have it for a long time.

Second one definately worked out better, i got it for $350 less than the first one and the amp sounds awesome.

I've had the V for 2 years and still love it, but always missed my IVa's lead ch.
Now that you say you like it better than your IVa and V, I feel like I really have to give the JP2C a try.

Good to see Boogie stepped up and have a fix. All of my Boogies are versatile enough to be played at any volume without having any issues. My oldest Boogies I got new back in 1992 and are used everyday. Hopefully now we can put the user error issue to rest and move on.

What exactly is wrong with the loop? I looked through the thread, hard to decipher what's going on. I heard some clips, sounds pretty good, thinking about getting one but not until I find out about this loop issue!

Feedback from all sources in the musical world is important to us, but none more so than from our own customers. We’ve been watching the feedback regarding the JP-2C from several of the popular forums, and while we are deeply flattered by most of it, it’s come to our attention there is a potential for mismatched Effects Loop levels between the Channels for some players under certain settings conditions, particularly those that use the amp at lower volumes. Consequently we have a voluntary update that addresses this possible discrepancy and creates more balanced Loop levels throughout the Channels when the amp is used for its intended purpose (a Clean sound in Channel 1 and two high gain overdrive sounds in Channels 2 and 3) at these lower playing volumes.

The feedback suggests that for many, the Effects Loop is operating satisfactorily and within the performance parameters needed. Those players may not want to part with their amplifiers for a week or two to receive an update even with the shipping cost covered and the update free of charge. For those of you experiencing difficulties matching levels, we can send a UPS Call Tag, have the amplifier picked up and update it and return it to you within a week (shop time) free of charge. Regardless of which of these categories you might fall into, should you be unable to be without your amp or simply choose to wait until time permits that, rest assured we will be happy to do the same for you or subsequent owners at no charge any time during the 5-Year Transferrable Warranty.

The update addresses the concerns most commonly associated with the feedback we have noted on the forums. These concerns arose in applications where the playing volumes were low and/or a high setting of the MASTER in Channel 1 (as compared to Channels 2 and 3) produced excessive volume in the first repeats using a Delay. The update addresses these concerns and provides a well-matched Effects blend–again–when the amplifier is used for the intended use stated above and the Channels are relatively close volume-wise.

However, since performance of the Effects Loop is greatly affected by the settings of both the preamp (GAIN and Tone Controls) and power amp (MASTER and PRESENCE) in each of the Channels, it is still possible to experience SEND and/or RETURN level differences under certain conditions. Namely those which deviate from the Clean/Gain/Gain Channel dedication noted above and/or extreme GAIN and MASTER differences Channel to Channel. In an amplifier with this much GAIN and output power, as with any hot-rod, an application must be determined and a relative tuning for that application applied to achieve stability for the widest number of “drivers”.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate greatly your willingness to help us address this concern early on and assure the greatest level of satisfaction from your new amplifier.

loves me some mesa. been a fan since the first time I plugged into a rec and hit an e. I've had a ton of shit down through the years and I always go back to them. this amp is a grandslam no brainer for me. I will get one, and a couple of mark III metal grill cabs and call it a day. did I say I loves me some mesa?

Heres a decent review taken from the boogie boards. Not mine but you guys might like it. It was kinda long to read so i just took some of it but it might answer some questions for you guys about the tones and how it sounds compared to the originals.

Is it a C+? (Disclaimer: lets just say i have a few C+'s.... like double digits and very familiar with tones and versions).. anyway..It reminds me of when you get a C+ recapped and tuned up and returned from Mesa.

Channel 1 Clean. Top 3 cleans I've heard from a C+. No eq needed.. Matter of fact it sounds better than any of my C+'s except for 1, I call his majesty... (Note: Has not be recapped.....) The EQ actually makes it worse. I feel that in the originals I need the EQ and Without EQ it takes tweaking that never ends. I set channel 1 to the manuals "quick gratification" and turned it up, the channel on the g-major is just a bit of chorus and delay.. It was heavenly......

Channel 2 Sounds like a recapped C+ with current Mesa tubes. If you need more gain than this there is something wrong with you
Channel 3 Sounds like a recapped C++ with current Mesa Tubes. If you need more gain than this you are dead. Note: Everything pulled and shred on gain maxed!

I got really great tones right out of the box using my knowledge of C+'s. Started to experiment with the shred toggle and pull gains and got into the realms of real C+ tones.... One thats has been recapped anyway..

Final review to follow since all my 60/100's run with 415's. So I need a bit more time to drop a set of quads in there. So I may compare apples to apples. Its a great amp but my ears are used to a bit more SAG which kind of comes from age, a bit more squishy of lead channel that is the C+......
In 20 years this amp might climb the shelf. . But right now, as it stand out of the box......., I have better sounding C+'s and some as equals.. "Different Degrees of Awesomeness!"-JP

Remember folks.. A re-issue will never be better than the original , but you'll never get an original with this much functionality.
