Hi,

I am a new user of Smallbox 50. I once had Pink Taco then sold it to make room for less impressive but more versatile (because of two channel) Mesa Boogie Mark V 25W.

But I just could not forget the massive punch of Pink Taco that overpowered Boogie. This time, I wanted a two-channel Friedman, so I brought in Smallbox 50.

I mostly play almost contemporary stuffs, like Volbeat, Finch, Silverstein, Story of the Year, etc. using Mesa Boogie, but I learned Smallbox 50 is somewhat retro-voiced compared to BE-100, and definitely more vintage than Mesa Boogie.

Nothing wrong with it, and by having vintage voiced Smallbox 50, I kind of have variety of amp tones: Fender, vintage voiced Marshally Friedman and modern high gain Mesa Boogie.

But can you suggest any overdrive pedal to turn Smallbox into Mesa Boogie to sit Boogie at home?

Or any other ideas or suggestions?

Thank you! Rock on!

Were you planning on running a distortion pedal thru the plexi channel of the Small Box or an OD to boost the BE channel ? Possibly a Mesa Throttle Box thru the plexi channel would work

Koko boost is very versatile for both channels. You can cut or boost mids with it + add gain.

you can wait a bit and get a one of the new Friedman OD pedals if you want or use a Koko Boost.

I use an Xotic BB Preamp w Mid Boost on my Pink Taco if i wanna really hammer it for heavier stuff. The tonality is there, you just need to goose it a bit.
