Boost pedals

I am running the Wizard through some paces today. I notice any pedals that have say an overdrive/ distortion circuit to them don't sound all that good to me with the Wizard. But any type of pedal that is more just a boost, clean type of boost etc... this sends the Wizard into ALL NEW TERRITORY.
Makes the MC-100 a whole different animal. Trouble is I don't have THAT many boost pedals lying around today. I know Erock runs the BB preamp pedal by xotic, do you guys have any recommendations of others? Like of course the tim and timmy pedals. Let me know. ;)

 yeah and if I could score one without a long wait that is my 1st choice.

Look into the Xotic RC Booster it's more transparent than the BB Preamp if you simply want a clean boost.
The MXR 10 band EQ pedal is a nice one too, it's really flexible at hitting the frequencies that you want more of.

I wonder if any of the tube screamers would work ? I know that my keeley modded sd-1 is okay but even that is more than the Wizard needs. I tell ya this. the Wizard mc-100 just as it is. in otherwords the way Rik at Wizard intended it to be when he built it only needs a transparent/clean push to carry it into a level that us guys that have or do own camerons can be happy with. The Wizard is THAT CLOSE. I may not have mine modded at all. Plus with the boost in a pedal form you already got the lead boost you can engage and I am not sure the new gain mod will be foot switchable. If not that will limit you to a choice of either way. I want it all. I want both dammit!   My zak wylde over drive works killer with the gain almost off and the level at noon and the tone at just before noon.

Ive been doing a little research and it seems like the 2 faves that keep coming up are the Timmy or the BB. I know the BB is readily available.

Thanks Paul. I am gonna try and find noe of the BBpedals. I am also gonna try and score a Tim or Timmy. I keep seeing guys around my parts with them but they want the same money as new. I rather wait than pay new money for used. Unless it is a Cameron.   You get the Wizard you are gonna be set for life with all the other amps you got bud. Just like me. :)

Another pedal I have never tried is the OCD. All I know is there are 4 versions.

I really appreciate the post Dave. I had forgot about the mid hump/ added frequency the tubies style pedals add. Hey it's been awhile since I have felt the need to use a boost. Damn Cameron's.   Wadda ya gonna do? But The Wizard is and I am telling you straight the most perfect sounding power plant I have ever heard.
The fact that the MC-100 will accept pedals, and give a guy hearable/ noticable differences in the boosts on the amp already there from the factory, every control on this thing has a really good full spectrum and range for adjustment. I gotta admit it seems a touch wierd to be named the Modern Classic as it falls at the dor step of metal/over the top metal .
But that is remedied by the right speaker choice, and pick up choice and with no more than a clean boost. Not even an addition of drive is needed to carry a guy into Metal and more metal. I love the clarity of the MC-100's tone and note definition. It literally blooms the notes without exageration.
All this being stock right out of the box. But I am on a quest to know what the MC-100 has, is ,and lacks if anything for the dough. Cause it's alot.

I'm using the Magic Box with very little gain, but using the output as a boost, it works fantastic. Its made to work with amps that already have a good amount of gain on tap so for a lot of amps its not enough. I'm using it with stock and modded Marshalls, I have not heard a Wizard, but I have heard they are pretty Marshall like so it seems it would be a good match. The voicing switch does a lot also, but it is an overdrive, I understand you are not really looking for one of those......... just sayin :D I have an OCD, and love it, but the MB has a more open sound to it with the voicing sw in the center position which I prefer

do tell what the Timmy gave the Wizard ? :student: I also have heard about the Robin trower fulltone pedal. Any of you guys ever run that thing?

You guys know what the Tim and Timmy pedals are new now? and the wait times?

I got a rocket fuel and believe it or not I have not used it more than 4 times. Awesome for sure but I took it out today to run it with the Wizard and it would not come on. I took the battery/rear lid off and changed the battery, nothing. The new battery started getting hot as fire. I PM'd Dave from majikbox earlier and I am waiting to see what he tels me. STAY TUNED! Man, I got bad friggin luck. Hey atleast at the moment my rocket fuel pedal is transparent.

Wow! Sorry to hear about the RF. I've been using mine a lot for at least 6 months or more...not one issue. I'm sure Dave will make it right!

Yeah, he has not logged in today so I will give him the time to get up to speed with this. I am just so curious what could have went wrong? I mean the thing has been on a shelf and only used like 4 times and those 4 times it was great. I was really looking forward to using it with the Wizard as trying any type of pedals and boosts was my main objective today with the Wizard. OH, WELL! Hey, my RF pedal still looks killer though!

I posted a thread a lot like this last week. If you wanna read through it here it is viewtopic.php?f=3&t=60856

I ended up getting an OCD v4 and a Danelectro Transparent Overdrive CTO-1. I have not received them so I can't tell you if they are any good yet. :D They will be going into my '77 JMP 2203. I already have a MIJ SD-1, BB Pre, TS9, Sexdrive, and Mucho Boosto. My favorite ones are the BB and the TS9. Looking forward to the Dano and OCD a lot.

Dano Transparent OD RULES!!

+1

It does sound great!

Grab one off ebay for $40 or so.

Can't really go wrong for that price, just flip it if you don't dig it.

Great pedal!! You can crank the gain and get a little grit from it.

I tried my MC with a Keeley Modded TS-808 and the MC didn't like it at all. I gotta pick up a BB.
