Preamp pedal?

When I'm wanting tight high gain metal tones I generally stick with the SLO pedal, or Wurm 2. When I'm playing doom/stoner metal, or some classic rock it's one of the fuzz pedals.

Nothing I've ever played through crushes for heavily distorted tones at loud volume like the Hiwatt and Reeves do. They have a level of punch, and clarity to them that is unique. I also briefly owned a Hi-Tone DR103 clone, and it was the same sound.
I believe it. I would love to try those amps. The closest I have played was the fortin super hi Hiwatt. It had a great clarity and a wonderful voicing. But I have heard about the punch from those DR103s. And I have heard nothing but great things about Hiwatts and Reeves amps

Most of the guys I play with do the same thing. If you haven't done it, I strongly recommend. 120 dbs gets a little harsh in a smaller room, but I have done it more than a few times.
Several of the venues I play have a dB meter on the wall. If I see it hit 110db, I know there will be some complaints from the audience and bar staff. But that usually only happens when the drummer hits particularly hard. This is a classic rock cover band and I use a Marshall DSL50 mic'd up

If the poweramp is remotely the same, and the mids are voiced around the same frequencies I believe it sounded amazing. If I was not such a big fuzz lover I'd be tempted to sell my DR103 and try one out. Ime the clean channels of most high gain amps don't tend to take really thick cranked fuzz pedals very well.

i know on long island there was a 100db limit or there were fines

playing super loud is great fun to me for about a minute and a half, and then it just gets super irritating, much like launching my car on the on ramp and doing 120 till the next exit is all i need until im idling around town the rest of the day

I have the KSR Ceres pedal going into a KSR PA50. I treat it just like any other amp I have on my switcher. So I use EQ and OD pedals to hit the front of the Ceres preamp pedal just like any other amp and EQ after, it sounds massive. I think if I tried to compare just the preamp pedal to a boosted full tube amp, there’s a noticeable difference.

It’s a little different sound for sure, it’s a different flavor but it’s tight and brutal as it can be.

So for me anyway, it’s just having variety.

Does it irritate you going to shows? The shows I go to are 120 db at least.

I’ve tried a bunch of amps, preamp pedals and distortion pedals. For me it’s fun to see if I can get “my” sound from different combinations.
This clip I made like 5 years ago is an AMT R2 using the Drive out jack so it’s a distortion pedal. It’s going into the front of my old Teisco Checkmate 50 watt tube amp. At some point I turn on a boost pedal. I was very happy with this setup even though it wasn’t my main setup.

I just recently got the new Peavey VTM pedal and really like it.

Ok. That makes sense. I dont know how I have avoided it. I know that when I have been playing loud consistently every day for months, i see the treble come way up on the amp.
