What OD pedal would work best to get a HBE sound of the the Dirty Shirley? I really love the clean and moderate gain levels on the Dirsty Shirley, but sometimes want that Van Halen or 80's hair metal sound. Thoughts?

My most transparent and smoothest OD pedal I have is the Timmy, but I'm sure the Koko would be better or just as good. The Timmy is one pedal that's sounded good with ANY amp I've played with.

Don't know about DS as I don't have one and never played it but I've been pretty happy lately with Suhr Shiba Drive Reloaded as a boost for my BE-100 ... it's REALLY good and maintains the "base" sound really well while adding saturation and gain. I actually like boosting BE channel to HBE levels better then HBE alone.

Will a boost like the Koko really produce enough tightness and saturation? How does the Koko compare to something like the Zvex Super Hard On?

I use the koko boost to boost my dirty shirley, and it sounds great, has a great boosted marshall cut to it. Totally different than the compressed warm hbe (which is still good, but different)

Koko-Boost is mentioned a couple of times.
Guys, when you are talking about the Koko Boost - which one do you mean - the "Reloaded" or the first version?

Cheers

The Koko will change your tone. The Timmy will allow you to preserve your tone and add gain and tightness. It's all what you're looking for. You can also swap out the rectifier tube for a solid state to tighten things up.

I disagree. The koko will not change your tone. It's a boost..not overdrive pedal like the Timmy. I've had both.
