I noticed that my Friedman BE50 was humming super loud when I turned up the master volume (effects loop) to 3 pm. Once I removed the Boss EQ from the loop, the hum was gone. Just wondering why does the Boss EQ cause this huge hum and is there anything that can get rid of it? I'm using the same wall outlet for both the amp and the Boss pedal.

Same outlet? Check
Replace power adapter?
We've had a bunch of 'loop hum' threads over the past month or two.
See if you can find some answers there.
Why Master at 3pm?

Thanks. Well, the power adaptor is one of those Friedman Power Grid 10 things. There should be no hum from that.

Dave recommends people put their master at 3 pm and then adjust the channel volumes from there. It makes the amp sound different, but I'm keeping mine at 9 AM right now because there's no hum and it sounds good. What's odd about my EQ pedal is that it doesn't light up really well, which makes me wonder if it's supposed to be 18v? I don't know.

I didn't know they made an 18v version :dunno:
I know pedals can be modded tho.
Maybe try a battery only
Can you experiment with plugging some other things into the Power Grid to test?
Clean all jacks in line with Dioxit
Test wall outlet

Some say GE-7 are known to be “noisy”. Bukavac and other great players seem to suggest annalogman modded GE-7 because they are quieter. I’ve never remembered having noise issues with my GE-7 though I haven’t plugged it in in years now.

As others have said, try a different power supply, and outlet.

9V center negative. Probably only requires minimal mA current also but check the power supply and BOSS if it’s not written on the pedal.

Well, I never figured out what was wrong with the Boss pedal, but I have a more serious problem.

I installed an old Gotoh humbucker into my Strat this weekend, but it sounded weaker than in the Fernandes it came in. I followed this diagram almost exactly like it is shown below. The only difference is that my 1980s Gotoh humbucker has a red, white and gray ground set of wires. The red wire was soldered to the switch, white to the volume pot ground, and gray to the volume pot ground. Volume and tone knobs work correctly, but the sound on the bridge humbucker to me sounds a little less thick and less gainy than it should. I took out the Gotoh and put in the Friedman Classic + pickup into the Strat, and it still sounds weak. Is there something I am doing wrong with the wiring to make the sound of all humbuckers into just using the single coil? I intentionally wanted this to not have coil split. Also, the only other thing I did not do is that I did not connect the switch that I highlighted below with blue does. I don't know how important connecting this part of the switch to the volume ground is.

Also, it's not a damaged pickup problem. When I installed the Gotoh back into into the Fernandes, it sounded great just like before. I am using a 500K pot for the volume, and a 250K for the one tone knob. These pots are brand new and I just bought them today. Wiring is also fresh and new.

Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
