Had a couple NGD's lately but have been way too busy to post much about them yet. Using an Evh 50watt, and just got a boss ms-3 to use for switching and effects mostly. I got the boss to replace my tuner/boost/delay pedals for a simple live rig.
Love the Evh blue channel boosted(red too) with my maxon808, so first off went to the boosts on the boss, set up a channel for that, but started using the parametric to set up boost in front of the amp in 4cm. The para eq is super powerful, and so far I'm liking it better than the built in overdrives or my maxon so far I think. Won't get a chance to a/b them at volume until Friday. anyone use the ms-3 and boost their amp? Any tips for best boost results?
It kind of reminds me of the old pq3 as a boost. Pretty cool.

Just a little update for anyone that likes eq's like I do. The parametric on this thing is killer and reminds me of the way I've seen the pq3 used. It has a crazy db of boost, a simple hi/lo pass filter, and i think 2 bands of mids to adjust. It's like making your own boost pedal(s).
I just spent an hour a/b'ing the para, and the built in boost pedals with my maxon. The built in ts was so close it would have been redundant to use mine, but I'm liking the parametric better anyway.

I have an MS-3...What a great unit for a lot of reasons. My only complaint so far has been I don't love the built in overdrives. I still use an external OD in front. I gotta try the eq and see if it does the job better. What are your settings ?

The ms3 OD is ok
I use a KHDK ts type in front
The feel is way better. Same thing with Kemper & fx8.
I should try the eq up front. I use it in the loop for a mid boost on solos

I literally put my od808 In loop 1 in front of my preamp, and the built in ts side by side and compared them and came super close. The built in seems to have more push so I dropped the level to about 70-75%, and bass -3 or so... I can hardly tell the difference.

The graffic eq I use in the loop, but the parametric I use in front so far as a boost. I'll try and take some pics of the settings as it's a little involved; so far I'm cutting a few db's bass(low), +10db output, -3db 500k at.5, +8-10db at 800k(q=.5), high shelf at 4K, low shelf at 80hz I think. I'll take a couple pics tomorrow. It friggin killed my 808 in front of the Evh.

I'll take some pics when I get up tomorrow, as I have 4 different versions I'm trying right now, with different frequencies and q's. I'm super nerding over this eq right now.

I do similar with my Axe-FX a lot because the drives can sound weird to me sometimes.

To approximate a Tubescreamer, you basically want to cut lows below 700hz, and cut highs above 700hz. I typically cut lows about 200hz by -5db or so, and then cut highs about 1500hz by -5db or so. Shelving EQ both ways. I will also boost the 500-1000 range with a peaking EQ, depending on what range I want for different amps. Usually about 700-900 is the best.

One of the parametric boosts I have set like that, more of a ts style curve, but I have a couple more with more extreme curves that sound more modern, in the same vein of the fortin boosts, etc..

Hey man sorry just saw this. I dont use it anymore as im back to a maxon and a 5150 lol. But… at the time i was using it like a pq3 and boosting 6-700hz, and 1-1.4 khz a couple decibles and boosting the level about 3-4 decibles. Also cut below 300 and below a few decibles. I dont remember the exact settings, but i fucked with it way too much and ended up getting rid of it.
