Bought a DAR, needs some TLC 😅

As the title states, It’s needing some heavy TLC but we got a rare one over here. I’d like to try and save it to breath fire again. Back the serial says “DEMO 1”. Anyone one else mess with the Quattro?!

At this point the biggest issue is the volume/power cuts in and out … the gain gets fuzzed out if I apply master volume to it swapping the preamp tubes helped get the gain back up to par and stable at very lower volume but now we need the full power .

I need to chat with reverb about either a discount to fix it up or return. Trying to exhaust my possible options with home remedies before hitting them up. Next step would be discussion money off and if that’s worth taking this on with a tech I’ll probably need to ship to.

At a bare minimum, it'd probably be a good idea to try and at least narrow the fault down to which general area of the amp is actually causing the problem. For example, if running a known working preamp into the FX return still has the cutout issue, the problem would be somewhere in the back 'half' of the circuit, but it could still be anything from a faulty jack or pot, something in the PI, the output tubes, or a few other possible things. I'm glad that swapping preamp tubes seemed to fix some of it, but that type of random stuff is usually only going to get you so far until you determine what the other issue(s) actually are.

this guy is very dodgy with giving a price, i gave a decent offer

if he was seriously moving to another country (whereever that could be) seems he'd try to actually get rid of the stuff

but i can understand being attached lol

as for realistic,

they've gone from 7k to 10k i want to say US throught the years on reverb???

but idk what this guy wants, seems he legit wants the full 50 or 52 thousand canadian or roughly 38+ US

Yeah. I offered to do $8k if I could have proof it works 100%. He messaged back he already can get that if he wanted… he’s waiting for a 12k offer the sell the FBM probably. Which news flash to all the guys out there saying they are worth that … aside from ONE buyer on record doing that where are the rest of the people willing to pay that to make it the real value lmao. It’s clearly not there this has been sitting for months. Just like his 12k Fortin modded Marshall’s

yeah i offered similarly, and it was clearly a no go,

i kept asking for pics, took a week, and i wanted more than just the FBM, although it was nice to see it was more than a Tuzzia, i am not trying to imply anything incredibly shady but it is strange, i can upload pics in minutes if necessary, only reason i dont is if i honestly forget

so 12k eh? jeebus

i gave up after the 8k wasn't enough, so i wish him luck, or i wish that he is actually in a rush and has to sell something

he also states he has another FBM but it's elswhere? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Soooo I found a post saying these should have 12au7 tubes in the preamp minus a 12ax7 in the 4th spot to the right….

I retubed it when trouble shooting and it had JJ 12ax7s in it like most amps. Ordered some 12au7 tubes and awaiting their delivery to test what that’s causing.
