Brent Hinds (ex-Mastodon) died last night.

Sucks to hear, I probably saw them live a dozen times & they never failed to impress.

My old band rehearsed in the same spot they did down in Atlanta, around 10 years ago. We'd bump into them from time to time and they were always cool when we crossed paths.

It's so weird, I'm not a huge Mastadon fan but had "Crack the Skye" and have always loved their songs when I hear one of them.

Last night, before the news even came out about him, I stumbled on a newer stage rig breakdown of his. I watched that and then went down a rabbit hole on Wikipedia about the band, their gear, etc. It was weird driving home and hearing the news on the radio after just watching clips and reading stuff.

damn. my parents were bikers and i just never had the urge seeing stuff like this all the time. my buddy just the other day hit me up all distraught that he saw a terrible bike accident and didnt think the dude was gonna make it. RIP Brent.
Agreed. I love bikes, have many friends who ride and have played out in the Black Hills during the rally, 4 times over the years....

There's just no protection IF something goes bad. Knew a Physician's Assistant, left work at the ER @4pm early spring 10 yrs ago. His daughter messaged him to pls pick up some flour at the corner store. He turned L at a light, going 10mph and layed the bike down with all the sand still on the road...no helmet. Went back to the same ER he'd just left...died an hour later.

I got to meet him a couple of years ago before a Mastodon show. He's the most laid back chill guy. We spent a couple minutes chatting and I thanked him for all of the great riffs and music he helped make before he left. RIP

Agreed. Especially in the area of Atlanta he was hit. Damn. A completely tortured soul who could likely piss off Mother Theresa - but damn did he have a monster tone. And even his nasally singing added character to their songs. What a shitty way to go. Hope it was quick and painless.

Time to go blast some Blood and Thunder in tribute.

This is mostly Hinds on vocal - but tbh, it is not always easy because in Mastodon, 3 of them did vocals and 2 of them played guitar both lead and rhythm.
@Geo

And a somewhat fitting song.

we all just need to ignore him and not take the bait

Believe me I try. It's not bait though, just stupidity and not being able to read the room.

RIP man. He was an amazing guitar player, good enough on vox and a great songwriter.
Glad I saw them on the Ashes for Leviathan tour last fall.
