Bridge Pickup for a Les Paul Custom???

I'm having trouble finding a bridge pickup for my '76 Les Paul Custom. I love my neck pickup (Duncan jazz pulled from an '84 Rhoads Student I used to own) but can't seem to get it right for the bridge. I'm trying to avoid dropping an Anderson H2+ (my favorite) in there simply because I don't think it looks right with those huge pole pieces (I'm almost always about function over form...this is probably my only guitar where I care about its looks more than I should :loco: ).

Pickups tried:
Duncan JB - ok but kind of harsh
Duncan Screamin Demon - too dark
Duncan Full Shred - ok but kind of thin
Duncan Custom - too thin, no balls
Duncan Pearly Gates - awesome for classic rock and lower gain styles, not cutting it for classic metal plus it squeals at high volume.
Dimarzio Super Distortion - :bleh:
Gibson Dirty Fingers (vintage...in there now) - really hoped this would be the one (ala Sykes)...sounds awful and surprisingly weak.

I primarily play classic hard rock/metal. Any recommendations before I go Anderson?
 
I have a Gibson '57 Classic + in my 1981 Les Paul Custom.

I've got a 75 Custom and the opposite situation as you. I love my bridge pup, Rio Grande BBQ, but I'm not crazy about the Texas pup in the neck. I've had a JB and an EMG 81 in the bridge, but the BBQ beats them hands down. I've got some Andersons too. They wouldn't be my first choice for a Les Paul either. They sound great, but a bit too Hi-Fi for a Paul.
 
I REALLY like Gibsons 500T...but that's in maple topped guitars...I don't have a Custom.

I had mine potted...so it wouldn't sqeal with my TWclone.
 
Screaming demons too Dark :confused: I find them too mid/treble.

Look into MCP ...3rd BB/Angel Dust or maybe Suhr's Aldrich
 
Suhr Aldrich sounds great in mine. Similar to the Duncan Custom but with more low end punch.
 
My friend has a gold covered Suhr Aldrich in excellent condition that he had in his LP he'd sell for a good price. PM if you are interested and I'll give you his contact information.
 
some of the pu i like in a lpc are the suhr aldrich, 500t and 57 classic.
 
I'm currently using an Aldrich, and it's okay. . .not spectacular.

Rio Grande BBQ is really good. . .I'm thinking of going back to it.

But, the next one I try will probably be the Bareknuckle Rebel Yell.
 
I think it's JonVengeance that has a couple with BK Nailbombs. Great thick tone.
 
I have a JB in my 76 Custom, sounds great. I've used a Custom as well. Actually the Custom is in the middle position.

+1. I have an Aldrich set in my Edwards Sykes LP Custom and they sound phenomenal!

I've tried a TON of pickups. My 2 favorites for a Les Paul are the BKP Emerald and the WCR Godwood. They are very similar IMO. I do not like the Rio Grande BBQ at all :thumbsdown:

High output, but still warm tone - nice present mids, not too much low end, still plenty of high end. Balanced, I guess... The thing I like about them is even with high gain, you can hear every note ring out when playing an open chord. Great clarity, sounds great with high gain or low gain amps.

WCR Darkburst is what I'm trying next in my Paul.

BK Cold Sweat is supposed to sound great in LP's
 
Have you tried Motor City pickups?
They look stock,but sound unreal.
