Picked up a Budda 412 pretty cheap a while back. I was told it had four older UK V30's (almost, it's 3 + a recent Chinese) but man it sounds good. Punchy, tight, aggressive but not harsh - a real headkicker.

Popped the back and saw it was one of those designs with an internal baffle separating the top and bottom into two semi-decoupled chambers.

Anyone experimented / had luck with this kind of design? I'm not a big 2x12 guy but this box has made me rethink a few things.

Ive seen/played a couple cabinets like this. Not specifically the budda, i think one of them was an older ENGL? And I want to say Mesa did a split that was convertible open back or something?

IIRC both sounded quite good, but did feel slightly different to the normal style 4x12, so it might have been different because of the baffle construction i'm not sure

I'm not sure if my Budda 4x12 is split like that or not, but Budda rules supreme. Such a great value in the higher end cab market.

I like 2x12 cabs for modern high gain; I have 2 Mesa 2x12 compact cabs for my JP-2C; and I have 2 x Engl PRO E212VHB cabs for my Engl. The low end is tighter more defined to my ears.

I still prefer 4x12 with my Marshalls for the pure rawness, focused mids..., like a wall or tsunami of sound.

I had 90's VHT cab split like that (they called it 2530) pre-P50's, with V30 bottom, GB top, frontloaded and it was amazing. Not as agressive as some frontloaded cabs and very tight.

The Framus Cobra Cab my buddy has is like that. It was sweet if you took the metal grille off, but that grille sang like Yoko Ono. I eneded up putting rubber grommets on all the holes for the grille mounts and painting the back with automotive rubberized undercoating to shut that bitch up.

...Otherwise it was a great cab.

I wonder how much of what the OP is hearing is from the pine vs the internal baffle thing?
Yeah could do, I didn't even notice the pine tbh. Like everything tone related I'm sure it's the sum of its parts rather than a magic ingredient.

The cab is also a little more compact which might help with tightness.

I have a Budda SD45, 4x12 and 2x12. The amp is LAF. The cabs are awesome.

It’s a shame the brand disappeared.
