Anyone swap out their Burstbucker Pro's in a LP Standard? Curious as to what you put in there and why. Thanks.

Removed them from 3 of my lesters.
Replaced with RiffRaffs, Emeralds, and BlackDogs - calibrated sets for each, the '57 Black Beauty Custom a triple set.

I was but ended up leaving them in. Replaced the caps with Orange drops .15 neck and a .22 bridge and it really did make a difference for me. I love em now.

I swapped the BB Pros that came in a NOS '05 standard for a 490 and a 498.
The BB Pro's where to flubby and bassy in that guitar, it's just a fat sounding guitar
and the 490 & 498 just work in it for a tight fat punchy sound.

I put in a set of Suhr Aldrich pickups in my '03 LP standard LE and added push pull pots for the tone to split them.
The BBpros are now in my '73 LP custom. I took the covers off and replaced the magnet in the bridge pickup. So far I am really liking them in the LP custom. The Custom is a thick and mean sounding guitar and the BBpros just seem to work well with it.

Yeah, I heard about swapping the magnets in the BB Pro's. First thing I need to do is swap out that whole PCB assembly and get some 500K pots in there ASAP. Then I can make a better decision as to what the guitar needs. I'll probably try a magnet swap as I never did that before and would be good to know how to do for any future projects. Could save me some money on new pickups, but I already knew going in to buy this guitar that a pickup/electronic swap was probably going to have to happen.

I have a set of BB Pros in my '02 Limited Edition w/Ebony Fret board. Don't know if it's just the set that I received but WOW are they bright pickups. In combination with the snappiness of the ebony fret board I have to set up EQ patches just for that guitar, otherwise all the neighborhood dogs cower in fear.

Funny you mention this. Most of the Lesters I've swapped the pups out in have ebony 'boards. It was never a "oh, it's got this kinda Gibson pup in it so it has to be changed" thing, it was more just something didn't sound right to my ears. I was distracted while playing them. They didn't make the sound I expected them to. When I took stock of my changes over the last couple years, I found all my spare pups were BB1 and BB2s. I still have my Classic 57s in most of my guitars than came with 'em.racerevlon":baraxtyw said:

ended up with a riff raff/mule set and they sound absolutely amazing
thought about swapping the riff raff for a bridge mule, which sounds just as amazing and a little more organic, but I don't wanna lose the riff raffs sparkly and defined attack

had 11 pickups in it, and my favorites were the brightest bridge models (BK riff raff and cold sweat)

Good advice. I replaced my controls with a RS Electronics pot & cap kit. Now the controls actually work. Then I spent some time getting the height just right and pulled the covers. I really like them now that they are dialed in right.

At the very least I'll get the good electronics in there and if they still don't sound the way I want I have any idea of what the Burstbuckers don't have and look for that in another pickup. Swapped the Burstbucker Pro's in my LP Standard for a Motor City Pickups Detroiter set. Huge improvement. BB Pro's had too much highs and a flubby bass.
