Buying new guitar and analog stuff!

Hey guys!

First of all greetings to all my name is Ricardo, I've been palying electric gutiar for 8 year and finally decided to buy some good stuff I've 2500 USD to buy guitar, and some analog effects. So let's start:

What do I play?

I'm into Death metal, Technical Death, Progressive death, Metalcore, Deathcore and some Djent. I've been thinking about buying a Hellraiser C1 as when I make some research that's what I find as "the best" for metal, but I wanted to know what's your opinion.

What effects do I need?

Well to be honest in this 8 years I never took care of this kind of stuff so I need some support here. I need something to get distortions alike to bands like "The faceless", "Dying fetus", "The red chord", "Cattle decapitation", just need something that give me a sound of the genres I play. What else I need? analog EQ? uhmm delay, chorus, reverb for solos? (I'm totally new at this so, believe me I don't know what I'm talking about).

Well, there's not really a "best" guitar, though I suppose you can set some parameters about what your guitar should have. Humbuckers for sure. Do you want 7 strings? Thin or thicker neck? Those are some important questions. I would suggest just going and playing a bunch of guitars and see which you like the best.
 
I've been playing with an Ibanez gio for many gears so I think I'd have a 6 string and a normal neck. Is the Hellraiser C1 a good choice then? And what do you recommend me for the analog stuff?

-Digitech Hardwire serie

I don't have a decent amp, I play in a small marshall (very small). But the stuff is to playing live, since imma start making tours with my band so I need descent stuff, I think it would be to play in marshalls JMC-800 most of the times (clean) that's why I need some analog monsters. What else would I need? What about for a good distorsion (of my genres). And EQ? what else? tuner? :). I'm looking forward your answers ty very much!
 
get a new fortin designed randall amplifier
you can't get a better new amp for metal in that price range
my modified randall rd50h is a beast
bet the rd45h and the rd100h are even better

and you gotta figure out what kind of guitar you like the best
neck profile, scale, bridge type and pickups
 
Charvel Desolation series... 7-800$ for the "1" models ive got a DS-1FR which is shaped like a les paul but much lighter, with a real floyd rose , 24 fret compound radius neck, duncan blackout actives. Can do any style of music but really accels at metal and can do some death metal if you want to tune it down or run alot of gain..

Oh yeah and the hardwire pedals are the best out there I run an hardwire RV-7 Reverb pedal in the loop of my amp and its killer..
 
If you need to get an amp then look directly for a use Peavey 5150 or 6505. Inexpensive, reliable, and they have been on thousands of metal recordings.

The Schecters are nice. I would take a look at the SL series. Fluff is a member here who did a terrific demo of one.

The Hardwire delay is nice. You'll probably want an ISP Decimator as well. Turbo Tuner. Perhaps something like an OCD pedal for boost.

Mudder: I've checked the SL series, it seems it's a high end guitar (even better than the Hellraiser C-1 right?) I'm thinking about getting a Blackjack SLS C-1. Someone else can recommend me this series? I can see the frets are jumbo as well, but I think It wouldn't be a problem at all.

ericsabbath: What do you think of those guitars (Hellraiser C-1 and Backjack SLS C-1) I've been reading regarding neck profile, but still don't know which profile my actual GIO guitar is if C-shaped or U-Shaped, I think if those Schecters have the same neck profile as my actual guitar I'd go for the best of both of them. BTW you mean with scale the number of frets? I think bridge I'd go for a FR and for pickups I like the active EMGs.

What do you guys think about Maxon OD808 vs. Fulltone OCD, I really love the sound that guy reaches with both of these pedals!

So maybe:

I like the Turbo Tuner, but a Peterson or Boss are fine too.
EQ usually mean MXR.
 
I'd buy the guitar and a tube amp first, then think about the pedals

there are tons of great sounding pedals that cost like 30% of the pedals you mentioned
 
Eric, I can't afford an amp, since I'm from Colombia south america, the importation of such a big thing would cost a lot, and they are expensive in the local stores. Which pedals cheap and good as the ones I mentiones should I afford?

A used Peavey or Marshall should get you there. For guitars, look for a used Carvin. Probably the best bang for your buck. And versatile.
 
I'll take a look for the Carvins, do you guys think that the fulltone and maxon is enough for gain? or should I buy somthing elese? maybe them both can sound good to metalcore, but what about death metal are they enough?
 
I'm thinking the analog overdrive pedals won't get you into the tone territories you are looking for if the amp is to be played clean. Also seems you can't easily import big/heavy amps. In that case how about a modeler? For the money, a RP1000 or a used AxeFX may make you the happiest. The plus for both of those is that they have integrated effects. I have analog pedals and a multieffects unit. Honestly, I'd rather have the right gain tone than the analog effect pedals. So I'd put the money into whatever is generating the gain tone. Because to my ears the modern day units that do multieffects are great for reverb, delay, etc. That includes Digitech, AxeFX, and even Line6 units. But gain is a different story, and only certain amps or digital units will get you to the tone you are looking for.

But for gain you would probably like one of the used tube amps others mentioned. If those are too heavy to import then I would go for something like an RP1000 or used AxeFX.

For the guitar, how about a used ESP M1 or M2? They come stock with EMGs and a Floyd Rose. Not sure about the C1, but I have a similar Schecter model and find that the neck is very thick! Too thick for my taste. I would go used market for the guitar and look to ESP and other high gainers.

Pretty much this. Although, from what some people have been saying, the new bogner pedals might have enough gain and actually sound good too. I'd also add digitech's gsp1101; recently acquired one and I'm digging it (for what it is).

I'm pretty confused because prices for modelers vary a lot from one to another brand or reference I've been adviced to get any of these modelers:

- Axe FX (I don't know if is the same as Axe II?)
- Line 6 Pod HD 500
- Digitech RP1000
- Digitech gsp 1101

To be honest I haven't heard any of those Amp modelers, I'll try to go to a local store (there are few) maybe I can find some of these, but I'm sure won't find all of them. So can someone tell me pros and cons of each of these? I'm looking only for different type of gain for the genres I play, and some effects for solos, I'm not looking for crazy stuff.

international shipping from USA using USPS priority isn't too expensive
what's the regular voltage in colombia?
if it's 220v, you better buy an amp from thomann.de
they have a very cheap shipping method (fixed 50 euros for anything you want)


the rocktron reaction hush costs half of a isp and works just as fine
there's a brand called mooer that makes lots of small pedal models copied from several big brands, and sell them for about $45 each directly from china
they are well built and sound great
 
Yeah eric it's 220v. Anyways I won't be ale to take my amp to every single event in this country, that's why I decided for an amp modeler just wanted to know what's the differences between those that I mentioned 2 posts before, do you know the difference etween them and why is the price so different from one to another :)?
