Unless you 100% know you are dealing with a stand-up guy, always use a credit card through paypal. A charge-back through you CC company is the only real recourse. For me, 99% of the time I'm using a CC anyway for cash flow/airline miles, etc., so I don't really sweat it unless the guy seems like a total jackass - then I just don't bother.

ive got spare boxes of huge sizes and packing peanuts in the building behind our house for the same purpose.

Me too. My garage is full of them. Be careful though. This guy was hiding in my packing peanuts a few weeks ago... :scared:

What the FUCK is that?? :scared:
A badger raped a rat?

That would be a Possum Knut :D

I have had only one problem and that was a boost pedal (from this forum) that I recieved that 1: wasn't what it was described as and 2: doesn't work. I never bothered to contact the seller

I sure as hell would.

If I sent something out and it showed up DOA, I know I would want to know.

Personally I've had nothing but good transactions on the forums (JCF, USA Charvels, TGP, Anderson, and here...knock on wood) as recently as last month...ebay is the only place that I've had issues but even then I ultimately never got burned. That said, I have certainly heard the horror stories of others...especially with fake and misrepresented Charvels.

As was mentioned earlier, if it's a big ticket item, I make sure that we talk first...I feel that I can tell a lot about somebody's character after a decent one-on-one conversation. Thieves suck

I have had good luck buying and selling here on RT. No problems really at all. It sucks that some people have it in them to fuck someone out of a deal, especially here where we all are chasing the same thing...a great tone.

I will most likely continue to buy but only if I have references.

I wonder if Brad & co. should consider something like a small fee to post in classifieds? It could be a way to capture additional information about folks when they register/pay the fee for ad posting? Just a thought, and kind of along the lines of TGP. Doesn't mean it would eliminate the potential for bad deals or ripoffs, but could lessen the chances maybe.

If not that, perhaps a minimum post count + RT member sponsorship? Don't know, and perhaps none of this makes sense or is otherwise worthwhile. Just brain dumping. I'm appalled at the very notion of someone ripping off another person and incensed that this happened to Will. I love RT and would like to keep the sense of family and trust here, even if it means additional steps like those I outlined.

if brad adds a posting fee i wont post here anymore. theres a reason i dont bother over at TGP and its more than "dumble" BS.

i think a sponsorship is a good idea. RT already has a minimum post count required for companies/businesses to post in the classifieds which is 100 posts.

but to be honest its not brad's fault and i dont think he should have to admin any of it. we are supposed to be musicians helping musicians - everyone just needs to follow the guidlines people have shared in this forum and apply common sense. in reality im going to start reinforcing alot of rules a little more carefully. im not out to deny people the options to purchase gear - but i will be wiery about purchases from shady people.
i do believe a sponsorship thing would be cool though. there was a forum that was a 4x4 forum that you couldnt even JOIN the forum unless you were sponsored by someone that was well known and over a certain age limit. because the gear that was bought and sold on that forum was crazy. entire motors and such going for $8-10,000.

plus, the overall feeling on that forum was nice because of it. no LOLZ OMG talk going on over there whatsoever. maybe brad could look into something like that.

Yep, I agree with your sentiments and like I said, just brain farting ideas :) Oh, and I most assuredly don't believe anything is Brad's fault at all nor would I suggest any additional workload. Brad rocks, this forum rocks, and you folks rock. Just trying to think of ways to separate the wheat from chaff, as it were (I too wish to avoid the "lolz omg" crap).

Sorry if my bad deal scared anyone off, I just posted it as a warning to others. I have done hundreds of transactions over the past few years and 1 Bad deal shouldn't scare off everyone from completely dealing. It was just a warning for me to just be more cautious and anal when it comes to high dollar items. However, even if you have a phone conversation with the guy 1 on 1 you can never really know their intentions. It's easy to put on a act and be the nicest guy in the world. My deal just went south, he was very communicative at first and I even spoke to him on the phone a few times, then it took a big 180 when it was time to deliver. I haven't shy'd away completely from doing deals, as a matter off fact I recently picked up a Peters Hydra from a forumite so there is still hope that deals can be had without getting f'd over. Just be cautious and you should be fine. Plus I am never doing deals outside of paypal now.

Congrats on the Hydra score! James builds some incredible amps to be sure. I wish you luck with recovering the Herbert $$ and hope your successful. Again, sorry to hear about what happened and understand what you mean re: post and not scaring anyone off. I'll keep doing deals myself, with appropriate caution of course ;-)

i think thats the only "alive" possum ive ever seen in my entire life

I've had really good luck here at RT and TGP but would be very reluctant to deal with guys that mostly hang out at HC. My advice? Get references..check them...check the dude's previous posts on here. If your gut tells you something....LISTEN TO IT!

I have seen them in several states that I have lived. When I was in NC there was some BIG freakin possum. We lost our cat to a possum there took the cats head clear off before we even made it outside. The same week a possum tore up a rottweiler a few houses down. I am hoping it was the same one because the dog killed it but I would never have guessed a possum would have done that much damage before it was killed.

I should also mention that I have had nothing else but good transactions from R-T members. Just one bad one and meh it was 50 bucks.

This one was probably young. He wasn't very aggressive either - but he sure didn't want to leave my garage no matter how much I poked him with a broom. It took about 15 minutes to get him out. I used a blower and that seemed to get him moving. He ran to the bushes in a neighbors yard and slept there the entire day. He hasn't come back.

ive seen 100+ roadkill

Just finished another flawless transaction with a TGP member. Just scored a lovely Fromel DIG. Wasnt much $$ but I still try to be careful though.

Why doesn't this forum just go to some sort of Minimum post and or membership time period requirement for use of the classifieds??

The car sites I frequent and moderate usually have Minimum post requirement of 50-60 posts and or a 6 months of membership.
The people with low post counts but have 6 months on the forum get subject to a review over their post content..

It is quite simple to enforce all a moderator here has to do is scan the classifieds once a day and remove the Ad's of the members that do not meet that requirement..
A long with members reporting those posts..

My OP isn't directed at Rig-Talk. This is the place I worry least about. Most people selling here have been around quite a while, or are friends with other members.

I'd worry less about sending 3g's to most members here, than I would a relative
