I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm completely fed up with shitty sellers and crap shipping companies.

I've been buying stuff on eBay & Reverb since near their creation. I've bought a lot of stuff over that time and it was a rare occurrence for stupid shit to happen. In the last year or so though over half of the stuff I've bought I ended up having to deal with crap. Dishonest sellers listing things as excellent condition and/or not disclosing flaws. People that can't pack anything worth a damn and shipping companies beating the fuck out of the packages. You're lucky if the roll of bubble wrap you ordered arrives not beat to hell. You can barely trust buying stuff new. Ordering from GC or MF, they just grab something off the showroom that's been abused by every teenage wannabe who's smacked it up while fucking around the store. That's what everyone wants, a brand new $5K Gibson with built in buckle rash & scratches across the top.

Looking back at my purchase history, over the last year 6 of the 9 larger gear purchases I've made has had some sort of problem to deal with. The most recent was an alnico speaker that was delivered yesterday. Seller listed as excellent and showed up with thin/worn spots on the cone edge and a hole in the cone. The one before that was a bass guitar that was damaged in shipping. Before that was Peters amp with a double dose of stupid. Seller packed it like shit and UPS beat the hell out of it.

Of the 3 hassle free transactions, 2 were from members of RT; The KSR from JerEvil & Naylor from braintheory. Of course they're 110% honest guys, treat their gear well and professionally pack everything to survive a bombing raid.

So yeah, I've completely had it with the shitstorm that goes along with the online flea market sites. I won't buy from MF or GC either, even new. They've been too much of a pain in the ass to deal with too. I'm still good with buying new from Sweetwater for now. Especially with used gear, I'm sticking with buying from trusted members of the RT community. I feel confident that I can trust descriptions will be honest and accurate. Shipping companies may still bang the stuff around, but at least I'll know everything possible was done to pack it securely so it arrives safely.

Right on!

I buy and try heads off of GC all the time .... this past year I probably have tried a dozen different heads ... maybe 3/4 's of them were packed solid enough . I realize the gamble I take there ... but I have a GC literally up the road from me ... if there's any kind of problem I just bring it back ...
I haven't bought anything off the Verb except guitar parts .... for most of the reasons you mention .... shitty .. shady descriptions of stuff ...

I just ordered a MK IV from GC knowing full well I'll probably return it. Have a GC like 5 miles away if that. So, now I can try for no $$$.

did you score that rack mount version they had for 1300 ??? I slept on that one ... saw it way to late ..

I love my mark iv. I was tempted on selling mine to pay for the guitars on order but was worried that I won't be able to replace it

over the last two days .... they have had a Head ( with footswitch ) for 2200 .... and literally a few hours ago ... I saw a rackmount version mounted inside a decent looking " head " rack for 1300 ...... it was long gone by the time I hit " add to cart "

It sucks that 2 years ago you could get them for 1100-1300 all day.. I have a Ceriatone all access plexi on order and I'm on the wait list for the Alta 100 but damn I need another mesa at some point. Definitely getting a dual rec in 2023.

The head and footswitch was the one.

Seemed like decent price for it actually for these days.

I'm afraid I'm going to like it and wind up keeping it ?

I've had 2 Black dot IIIs, Jp2c, V, V:25, Studio and quad pre's. That's just the Marks.
This will be my 1st IV.
Needed to add Boogie flavor back in after selling V25 few weeks back. Altho, this wasn't meant to keep. My wife just laughed when I told her that.

At least she said don't sell anything when I told her I may wind up keeping it.

Online purchase shipping has definitely gotten worse in past several years. For anyone that lives close to a B&M GC, consider doing ship to store for anything valuable & open right in front of the manager. If package is mangled start, raising hell even before its opened. I've bought a few used cabs that way, and if condition is not as described, just refuse to accept - much easier than a return from your house. I have driven a bit longer to have more expensive things shipped to a Delaware GC sometimes (no state tax, worth it for $1k+). I know GC gets a lot of well-deserved hate, but they have a place in my shopping habits. Their warranty on used gear has paid off a few times, had a used Egnater Tweaker 15 that blew a power transformer after a couple of months, GC gave me full refund & let me keep it - local tech replaced with a Classic Tone PT for less than the refund.

Couple other thoughts about buying used from eBay /Reverb individual sellers - any seller that won't respond quickly to messages prior to the financial transaction completion raises red flags. I often politely ask the seller to ensure double boxed/well wrapped, can't hurt, the more you engage with them, the less likely they are to half ass packaging, that message trail can help if it comes to a refund claim.

Anyone with less than about 25 reviews as a seller makes me nervous about packing and potentially dishonest people - I'll steer clear of "deals" from those.

My first choice sellers are local privately owned used stores - support yours!

I do A LOT of buying and selling and trading.

15 years ago I felt good 95% of the time that a piece of gear that I bought would arrive as described.

Today that number, in my opinion, has dropped to around 65%.

I feel like people don’t give a shit anymore. They have that “oh fuck it, good enough” attitude.

And then you have fucktards like REVERB, charging money for people to be dishonest!! Their “Reverb protection program” is an open door for people to pay a fee and buy their lack of responsibility!!! “Oh it wasn’t that way when I shipped it…it must have happened during shipping”

Jesus fuck!!! I’d like to kick the CEO of Reverb in the head!!!

they had a JP2C for 2300 and a Studio pre for 1200 ...... the JP2C is already gone ...
