The 5 knob compressor with a few tweaks, is in the same league with the most boutique ones for a fraction of cost. Great pedal.

I am debating between the 2 knob and the 5knob compressor, how many tweaks did you have to make?

I had to tweak my Blues Overdrive, it wasn't a big deal.

The current kit contains most of the "clean up" mod, I changed a Q6 transistor to a lower gain one and maybe a resistor or two.

I had a Barber Tone Press and a Diamond, both of them are great, but missing some features of the other.
The 5 knob has a great feature set and I can set it up to be almost seamless, but keeping the dynamics manageable.

How does BYOC compare to GGG? (general guitar gadgets)

BYOC kits cost the same or more than it would cost to just buy the pedal new/assembled at retail or used on ebay. If you're just doing it for the experience, that's another thing I guess. On top of that, his circuits are not clones, so expect to be disappointed if you're expecting a true sounding clone. The 2 BYOC pedals I've tried were major letdowns. One was built by BYOC.com's owner and sounded like ass, so it's no builder error fault of mine. GGG lets you buy just their PCB for cheap, source the rest of the parts for cheap from anywhere and the instruction are free. Probably the best way to go if you want to try pedal building.
