I need some new cables. What’s the best bang for the buck? 16-20ft and thin?

Van Damme touring grade silver coated, with Neutrik jacks in black. eBay sellers will make them for you. I use a firm called DesignerCable.
6m is a good length, and around $25. Option of straight or angled jacks, and various cable colours.

You don’t need the ‘best’ - just something that performs slightly above your needs.

Gotham GAC-1 Ultra Pro. 21pF/foot. Basically zero triboelectric microphonics/handling noise. Hard to beat that at $0.90/foot from Redco. Throw on some Nuetrik plugs and you're good to go. You can also have Redco just make the cable for you.

I swapped all of my stuff to Best-tronics as well. I soldered up all of my own stuff and it was very economical. I wanted something that provided better sound quality than the mogami, etc I had around - and they beat it.

For the sake of it - one day I will buy a cable from you, and make a few from other brands at the exact same length and document the tonal differences. The electrical differences can be documented along with that, as I have done before as well, but do not lean on this entirely because the results do not always correlate the way one would think. The feel and sound are undeniable between some makes, though their electrical specs would have suggested otherwise.

Whatever you do, make sure you do your research. You will find a lot about the seller just by checking their social media posts.

I got some Castline cables with Mogami wire for a good deal this past 4th of July sale.

For me main rule is don't have a noisy cable, enjoy the tone and have fun.


But mainly just keep these two things the same.


1. Use the same brand of cable from guitar to board and board to amp.


2. Use the same brand patches, they can be different from brand from the ones used for amp and guitar but have the patches be the same brand.


In the end IME this just makes trouble shooting easier and provides more "control" over tone. The most important cables that have influence on tone are the ones from guitar to board and then followed by board to amp and then patches in that order.


Use discretion and enjoy.
