The Jose with greenies sounds really nice....it's that perfect 80's tone.

I don't want to buy another amp right now...please don't post anymore clips of that amp. :gethim:

I honestly think they both sound too fizzy. Can't say I like either tone. :(
Too much gain through the GreenBacks maybe. :dunno:

I just put a set of KRK RP8s in the living room for rough mixes and jammin' out on the laptop in style. :)... Anyway, put the clips on there, and I didn't catch anything too fizzy, and that's normally a pet peeve of mine.

If you have any more clips coming, that's awesome, because I've got a 1959 sitting in the band room I still haven't unboxed, ready to go get modded. Just gotta decide on which one.

EDIT:

JB, what guitar was that?
Cool, I can't hear any over buzz really either, but........

That was a Les Paul Custom Classic that I have as a loaner until next week. (Long story)

Hey Jason, quick question.. i know you lay your cabs on their side, what does this do soundwise?

Well, some people with disagree with me, but I think in a room like mine, they just sound better. Instead of the baffle pointed up at the ceiling and bouncing off and around, it projects left and right in the room. Also, I find it makes the cab sounds tighter. Sort of like if you have your cab on casters, and take the casters off, it sounds better and tighter IMO. It's firmly in the floor.

Like I said, some people will say I'm nuts, but I hear a big difference.....and I don't care what anybody else says. :D

I'm not him , but I do the same thing ... Keeps the sound away from your ears of course. Also spreads wider. That's the only way I can use 4x12's! The only thing I've never tried is running slant 4x12's upside down.. hmmmmmmmmmmmm

BTW, I know Mark's working on his own amps now... Is he still going to do mods? I'm not so much in the market for a channel switcher, just more straight up.
I'd say that's something you'd have to ask Mark about. I really don't know.

Ok so would this be worth doing in a band situation? or just when playing alone?

Reason why i ask is im jamming in a band again and wondered if it'd be useful to me!

Never hurts to try. Just play a few songs, then turn it on it's side and see how it sounds. Then, pack up that GMW and send it my way. :D

Could live with either amp I'm sure but I liked the Alrich amp a tad better. Slightly brighter and clearer.

Absolutely worth doing. It's all 'personal choice' though. I never like anything going straight towards my ears on stage, as the cymbols are loud enough. I keep my amps and cabs lower. Some guys put cabs UP on risers, or their combos at head level. Not me. Also , I don't get to play too many big stages, so if you're using 4x12's on small or medium sized stages, I like them on their sides the best. (no casters that way , not aimed at your ears , and better spread) It's not a night/day difference or anything ,but just check it out and see if you like it .

The Jose seems a little more versatile sounding to me. Like if you backed off the gain you could still nail some good 70's tones with it. The Aldrich with it's brighter tone sounds likes it's gotta be full on or nothing, 80's and onwards pretty much. Both sound very nice.

If that LP has the 500T in the bridge it would be a big contribution to the "fizz" people might be hearing. It's a little sizzly but not bad at all. I bet a 8-9K paf or P-90 would be ass kickin' through that Jose.

Dunno, maybe? Maybe because you're so used to recording with V30's? V30's just seem to record so well for metal tones.
They do sound COMPLETELY different. I was A/Bing them earlier, and like the GB's a lot more. They're really thick, but the v30's are a lot tighter, and more hi-fi sounding. I had the gain really high in the clips.
Did you ever try your friend's cab with the 65s ? How did they compare to GBs and V30s ?

I think they both sounded great, but probably would say I liked the Jose better

I liked the Aldrich better but would be happy with either one, very clear and defined.

Speaking of that, what did you do with the JCM800 Superlead you got from me?

That's what I'm trying to decide. :D I was originally going to send it to Dave Friedman for a mod I wanted, but got to thinking of Cameron too, and which I wanted first... Then I took a much-needed vacation and am just working the finances out right now.
