Mesa Dual Recto Comparison - Rev C, Rev F, and Rev G

Sounds like an eq in the loop could make all these sound pretty similar. I like the c and f the best but ain’t a damn thing wrong with the g.

You can certainly get them damn close just by turning knobs, let alone with an EQ. At least on Channel 2/Modern.

Some may call it crazy, but I’ve always liked the Rev G the most. Especially the Trem-o-Verb. The tremolo was nothing special compared to other amps but it had a certain greatness to it in the blues mode and the clean I felt was better than standard Rev G heads. Wish I still had one, maybe I should shop around.

I had a Dual Recto MW for a few years and it was a fine amp, but it needed some serious volume to sound good. In low to medium volume there was this strange hollowness in mids that I was not very fond of. But when I put some serious volume it sounded great, full and tight. I have rev F now and could not be happy more. It sounds full even on low volume and takes boosts like a champ. The multiwatt was maybe a bit more aggressive and dry but rev F is more juicier sounding and fun to play for me. Both amps are great and I woud be happy with either of them.

I have, but it's been a while. They're the Rectos I've spent the least amount of time with. The one I had was pretty cool. I have a buddy that owns one and really likes it. I should borrow it and do a quick clip with it as well.

I definitely don't think it's crazy. I've used Rev G more than any other since the '90s.

I think the 2 channels in general sound better than the 3 channels at lower volumes. Once the power amp kicks in, it all comes out in the wash, but for lower volume playing, I do think the 2 channels have an edge.

I own a Rev F that had what appeared to be the original coke bottle 420 6L6's in it - amp sounded fantastic with those tubes and thought it sounded better than almost any modern rock/metal amp. Noticed it was sounding a bit squishy last week, then put in a fresh set of Mesa 6L6's and it sounds even better, bolder, more aggressive. With a boost in front it's gotta be one of the best amps I've ever heard for what I like. Good comparison video BTW, another good Recto is the TremoVerb - essentially a Rev G with maybe a hair more gain.

The 420s are my favorite power tubes for Rectos. Their lifespan isn't as good as a lot of modern tubes, so unfortunately a lot of the used ones out there are pretty worn. I was fortunate enough to buy a large NOS stash a while back (8 or 9 quads new in box), plus have accumulated a lot of other good ones over the years.

the ones I had in there still sounded good, but definitely were older...I got the amp used at GC so I wasn't sure but as dusty as the chassis was inside, I assumed they were possibly original. The preamp tubes also looked to be original so I put a couple newer HG tubes in there. It's just a fantastic amp.

Which version Uber do you have, and how do you like it compared to the Recto? I've got an Original/Rev 1. I got it assuming there would be a lot of cross over in the ground they cover, and it in some ways there is. But, they're most distinct from each other than I assumed they would be.

Other than both being geared towards higher gain, they're pretty different. I have the Rev Blue. The personality of the 2 are their own thing...but again, high gain for some is high gain. To me the Uber low end is a little fuller than the Recto. I think they're different enough in voicing to have both...
