CCV. There's something more punchy about the CCV rhythm to me that I prefer. Also the high end of the PT100 is something that I tend to try and dial out, though, so its just down to what you like.

John knew what I dug, and built a completely different amp, using his standard OD100 clean (the best in the biz IMHO) and then ch2 and ch3 are his own creation, based off knowing what I like.
The dirt in the PT is pretty much modded Marshall in character. John has described it to me as being like a modded out JCM800. It does hi gain of course but you can get great lower gain Marshallesque tones with it too (I use the gain on ch2 on 5, and I use it with Don Henley like that, for example I play a LP on Hotel Cali with gain on 5 and bright switch off and I think it sounds appropriate for the song).
I love it when a plan comes together.![]()

I'm soooo glad you posted this Pete. I agree 1000%.
I've owned several 5150IIIs and now currently own the PT100... the PT100 sounds nothing like the 5150III. First off, the 5150III has a built-in mid-scoop cut in the preamp which makes the amp sound much more scooped on all 3 channels compared to the PT100. The PT100 is way more open sounding and uncompressed. Furthermore, the 5150III is way, way, way more compressed than the PT100. Finally, channel 3 on the 5150III is pretty much un-useable with the gain set anything past 10:00... it's just too much of a good thing. And don't forget that the clean channel and fx loop on the PT100 blow away those found on the 5150III.
I've also owned plenty of Marshalls (around 50-60 different Marshall amps, vintage/new, you name it)... and if someone can not get a decent vintage JTM45 to high-gain modified JCM800 2203 Marshall sound out of the PT100... they are doing something wrong... because those tones, and a bunch more are right here in the PT100.
I honestly don't know where some of you guys come up with this stuff? The PT100 was based on the 5150III? Really? Really? Get off the net and start buying or trying the gear. Too much bad info, conjecture, and false rumors around here sometimes. Dang.

I'm sure jealous of your ability to play 3 barr chords.

Go spend a million dollars on gear, it won't change a damm thing about your playing will it? If the gear fit the player you'd be stuck with a Mexican strat and Line 6 Spider Valve.

The better question is why does it bother you soooo much? Yeah, there a ton of guys here that can play much better than me? So what? Jealous much?
I never met you (or you little posse of douches) but it obviously burns the f-ck out of you guys that I can buy whatever I want, whenever I want, all brand-new mind you and could care less about what you have to say about it. I don't need your approval. I'm not the only guy here that buys-n-sells a ton of gear all the time and posts his opinion about it... but for whatever reason you like to keep attacking me for it. You need professional help. Maybe you and your buds can get a group rate.

BTW: Why don't you talk some shit about Pete's clips? I'm sure you can find something wrong in them.

Back on topic please. But my final word is you've been the typical big opinion internet amp expert since HCAF days, yet you can't play your way out of a paper bag. I could care less what you spend your money on, I just find it funny! Kinda like a guy going out and buying a Corvette and not being able to back out of the driveway.
I'm done.
