That’s one nasally sounding ocean mod. Not all of them are worth owning.

I honestly feel like my Nick Aldrich sounds better. All tube gain no clipping circuits. What people forget is that the ocean mod relies on rare radio germanium transistors used as clipping diodes and mark stopped making them because he ran out of transistors.

If the poster of that amp can’t take a picture of the rare silver can transistors in the amp, it’s likely a fake.

The date on it says 2019, we all know he stopped making ocean mods well before the CCV was released. The timeline also doesn’t add up.

To me there’s too many unknowns. It also doesn’t sound all that great IMO. I feel like I’ve heard better from Jason at headfirst or Eddy Lenz.

Very well put and good info.

I think this is one of the amps that came out a couple years ago thru that SuckerFreeGear (Jason?) run that was going on for a while.

I think it’s definitely Mark’s work - whether it has the transistors I have no idea.

Right ! Saw this one and was like yikes 7k someone will probably pay it , did some looking around a Cameron metro sold for 2300 in 2019 . Sounded way better too imo.

No chance does he get that price for it. That’s CCV money; maybe a little under. But Cams have been going for 4-5K during this inflationary time. Not 7.

4-5k for modded amps? I recall his original builds going for that range - but maybe everything has stepped up a level in pricing?

Was that also an Ocean mod?

Trying to decide if I don’t like that mod, in general, or just don’t like this amp!

Last one I sold was 4K. Last year. That was what the Cams were selling for. Other brands of modded Marshall’s were 3K.

Also notice the serial number is missing on the amp. That should be a red flag - mark never gave a damn. If you were trying to sell an ocean mod claimed to be done 2019 on a 2019+ amp then of course it would be a fake.

Tons of concerning issues here.

Most of those were hi gain and low gain joses from what I remember - no oceans or Aldrich’s.

The real ocean mods from earlier time periods are rarer than this and he did run out of the transistors. Maybe the circuit is the same with a substitution, but it’s still being dwarfed by other options out there right now IMHO.

I can't imagine the type/brand of transistor used for clipping matters all that much. But it's certainly a good way to authenticate the amp.

Last time I saw Mark, he gave me a couple cool 18v zeners that he likes. Gold leads, violet dot on the side. I think he got them from a parts bin at Apex. I compared them to other 18v zeners and didn't notice a difference to be honest. But I kept them in the amp for the cool factor lol.

I also played a bunch of amps he had. A few Jose mods, I think one Ocean (but don't quote me on that), some other modified non-Marshall amps. They all sounded good, but none of them blew me away. The only one I really liked was this Frankenstein'd project amp he said he uses as a test amp and is constantly tweaking. It was just an open chassis. About the size of a lunchbox type of amp. Huge iron. V1 wasn't a typical 12AX7. I forgot what he called it. Not a dual triode. Anyway, it sounded fantastic. I offered to buy it from him on the spot. He thought about it for a minute, but ultimately said no.

I still remember clips from 2012 era ocean mods and they were saturated and balanced. I haven’t heard a recent ocean mod touch one yet.

If you want to hear a good ocean mod, go YouTube James Lugo’s YouTube channel for his JMP ocean mod. The real deal and sounds great. I’ve heard it in person.
