I have a Peavey Windsor that was recently retubed and has Mecury Magnetics output/power transformers and a choke. Is there any way the gain can be bumped up and it can be modded, Dave?

Well I looked at the schematic and Yeah I might be able to. But since I have never done one not sure how it will turn out.

You respond with lightning speed man! How much would it cost/could you offer any other mods for her as well. I want this amp to really be metal capable, so can we kick it up a notch on the gain as well?

I have faith that whatever you do it will sound great.

Well its hard to say with out doing one but between 500.00 to 700.00

Alright Dave. Check your PM's; I'm ready when you are!

You're gonna get a lot of clips when this baby is done.

Anyone who is following this thread:

I have a Peavey Windsor with Mercury Magnetics Transformers/choke that is currently being modded by Dave Friedman into a Marshallesque metal monster. I was never a huge fan of the recent Marshalls, but the Windsor just has this great potential to it that I feel Mr. Friedman's work will be able to unlock. Changing the transformers in this amplifier to top-of-the-line models helped, but a rework of the circuitry may take this amplifier from great to compeltely rockin'

Dave is doing something similar to his hairy brown eye on this one, plus the saturation switch and whatever else he finds necessary to make the amp really shine.

He has been very friendly and knowledgable in all of our conversations. He was on top of things and checking out schematics for the re-voicing before I even confirmed I was sending the amp to him.

You portray yourself as a real professional without being snobby Dave. I'm real excited to hear what you do to my Windsor.

I will have SEVERAL clips through my different cabs available as soon as I get her back.

I've also noticed that I am one of the younger members of this forum (21). I've been workin' hard since I was 16 to aquire the most bitchin' collection of amplifiers out there. I hope the people on this forum will get to know me well.

+10000 on Dave being one of the COOLEST people to deal with.
I have had several things modded by him in the past and talked on the phone as well as multiple Emails with him. Very friendly and answered all questions without talking to me like I was a Dumb ass (like some others I have delt with out there) :gethim:
I highly recommend Dave to anyone. He will do you right.

Looking forward to seeing what happens.

The suspense is killing me already. I can't wait till Dave is done with it.

The palm-muting tightness on that LA Amp show video for the Hairy Brown Eye clips just pushes my amp-loving buttons.

Antsy to hear this too. I've seen a couple windsors practically being given away on Craigs...this would be a bargain modding starting point.

The Windsor is one hell of an amp. I prefer it to most Marshalls I have played. The only issue with it is the high-frequency oscillation which can be remedied by flipping the phase of the output transformer ;)

Alright guys, my amp is done! It's on its way to mojotone for a custom headcase and logo. Then, it will be home on my amp rack

The amp came out great. I did a custom mod just for the Windsor and I was surprised how good it was. Cost of this mod is 500.00 and you will get a killer amp. Now the amp I just did had upgraded transformers so I have yet to hear it with the stock ones. Dave

The transformers did make a large difference from the stock tone, but when you are is impressed, I KNOW it's a good sign

The amp sounds really, really good. It had it's own thing going on. Fun to play. Cheap. EASY TO SOLDER. I think this amp might become a great mod platform.
