Well my Rivera just sold. If I can move my 6505 quickly I may be able to keep the Herbert?

I’m going to go ahead and say with supreme confidence that I’m sure my 6505+ can hang with a Herbert and I bought it for $650 NOS.

Hang is subjective of course.

Eggy Armageddon is pretty damn close to Herbie. +12 db. Density!
Sounds huge, great mid sweep and built-in Decimator! Less than a grand all day ling

Herbert is King...Love them.
I own a Splawn Nitro loaded
with KT-88 Tubes and she is No Joke!!
That is one pissed Off Amp Turned Up
but it is very different from a Diezel.
Diezel’s have their own Unique Sound & Tone.
But a Nitro is Mean & Pissed Off!!!

I have a 6505+ and have played them back to back and it’s not even close brother! I wish it was.

Pretty much sums it up. For that style and that tone (modern metal), nothing beats a Herbert.

For 1K the D120 is a realistic replacement. Crushing low end, and great articulation no matter how much gain you use.

I've heard a few crazy super metal MESA/Boogie Mark III"s in my day.

I know you're asking for recommendations, but he is a consideration. I've always been a fan of Engl, I switched from Diezel to Engl a decade ago. I loved the low end aggression, the sound of the distortion, all of it. I then played in a band with a bass player that was conscious of the overall sound (who knew they were out there), and he kept complaining that me and the other guitar player were eating up is tone...he was right. When I switched to my Cameron, the overall sound of the band improved dramatically. To further that point, I have really gotten into recording and mixing over the last five months and the further down that rabbit hole I get, I realize that metal tones are carved out in the low end, so the bass can sit in the mix. To that end, now that I've tuned my ears to that, you can't have the low end in your guitar rig. Sonically, it doesn't work in a band. Yes, it sounds great at home and if that is all that you are doing, that is cool too, but if you're in a band, do yourself a favor and don't worry about the low end.
