Can anyone date and/or appraise these Celestions?

I have a line on a cab that's loaded with these, but I'm struggling to figure out the specific era/year of the cab. Anyone have any insight on what these are? And would a cab with these speakers (100W total) safely handle a JMP 2203 amp?

The F would mean they are 1973. Do you have better pics of the date stamp? T1221 means they are G12m. There should be numbers stamped on the cones as well

I don't have better pictures unfortunately. The cab it's in is a straight Marshall with cup caster trays and black grill cloth with white piping. I'm totally flummoxed on the cab.

I replaced one of the photos - had accidentally linked to one twice instead of one that was missing. Fixed now.

For celestions made between 68 and 91, the first letter is the month and the second letter is the year A=1968, B = 1969 etc. So is the date code were EF21 It would mean the speaker 21 May 1973. You may have different years in that cab.

So... If I could get this cab shipped for $600 would it be a good deal?

Those speakers are also all wired in Parallel, assuming they are all 16ohms that's a 2ohm load on an amp. Would not plug that into any of my heads wired that way. Also for '73 shouldn't that center post be larger? I would check with Jim at Scumback as he knows more about these cabs and speakers than anyone else...

There is a reason why the dates on the cones are not shown. Looks like a re-cone to me, probably by Jim at Scumback which is not a bad thing at all, just as long as the seller does not claim the speakers are original. The cab looks like a later era from the speaker frames.

It's the cones that are valuable, not the frames. If they've been reconed by Jim, they're worth whatever Scumbacks are worth, essentially. The old frames are just a conversation piece/mojo factor.

But how can you tell from this that it was reconed by Jim? I agree that if the seller won't send you pics of the cone stamps, you definitely should assume it's been reconed.

dirtyfunkg: If you can send me pics of the cones, front and back, I can usually tell if it's a recone, or if I reconed it. Looks like you've got the standard series/parallel wiring, so the cab should be 16 ohms. That center post is definitely not older than 74/75, as it's too small to be the 73 and older large center post. If these are all 25w G12M 16 ohm (T1221), then your 2203 is going to kill them. It's 115w clean and over 170w when cranked past 7 on the volume knob. Here's a JCM800 spec sheet I made into a jpeg.

Wow, small freakin world. That's the cab I just bought from GC. I can see the notches in one of the magnets and same codes. You've already seen all of this Jim.

FWIW, one had a shifted magnet and is dead, the other three are original cones and sound amazing. I put a Scummie H75 in place of the bad one and it is my best sounding cab by far.

-but then again who runs there 2203 on 7?... I can't stand directly in front of mine at 4!!

-I love what GREENBACKS produce when pushed hard, then again I'm not a fan of higher wattage speakers, most have zero character,

-just my worthless opinion-

-$600 is a great deal for that cab/speakers

They had lowered it to $499 when I saw it/bought it (around 8/17 or so). After everything it was $550-ish.
