Can I make My Ibanez sound more like a strat?

Hello

Have been having Gas for a strat lately, something about that sound I think I need, would help get tones I can't with my PRS. I have an Ibanez Prestige series, and I love the way this guitar feels, weighs, and the pickups are ok. Any pickups out there that would help stratify this guy or am I better off trying to sell or trade it for a Comprable strat, probally a highway one price wise.

Can you split the pickups on the Ibanez?

I`ve read that the Suhr Aldrich splits well. Maybe get a set of those, and install a splitter. A single split humbucker won`t sound exactly like a Strat, but if you run the neck and bridge together, both split, you should get in the ballpark.

The DiMarzio Bluesbucker is a P90 in humbucker form. You could try that.

P90s aren't the least bit "Stratty" sounding though so that won't be much of a help. Splitting the coils will help but you'll still be missing those "position 2 & 4" tones that really help to define the Strat sound.

I think a new guitar is in order if you really want Strat tone...I'd sell the Ibby.

if you love the guitar, you could get a couple of these conversion rings from allparts.com

and then maybe a 4 way tele switch so you can get a series and a parallel combo with the neck/bridge pups

sounds like the easiest way would be to try and sell and get a Strat.

Dude... im in the exact same boat as you man. I LOVE strat tones. Recently i played the Billy Corgan strat at best buy and must say that i love it! I have 3 Ibanez prestige models and they are great shredding machines but nothing as toneful and versitile as my strat. I wish SOOOO much that they had some kind of trem on them and 24 FRETS... but strat just doesnt wanna do it except for their tacky Heavy metal models..

I think the only USA strat I could afford is the highway one series, got to play them and I liked em, so that is a good thing. May have to try and flip my ibby unfortunetally, or see what how good of a trade in I can get. I am thinking that I am really missing that strat sound. It will take a little bit to get used to their feel though, not a huge fan.

I'm guessing you mean locking trem? The Deluxe strats with locking tuners and pop in trem arm hold their tune really well when whammy'd. I keep the bridge on mine floating and use it live and it does a great job. That said I could never keep my American Std in tune when whammying. I know the locking tuners help, but I think some of it has to do with the pop in trem arm.

To the OP, I agree with Rupe. If a Strat sound is what you want, a Strat is what you need!
