Can I run my TS808 at 18V?

I've heard some people do.

Would it be safe to do so? I have a 9 to 18V adapter that I use with my 805.

Not sure if I will fry something with my TS808.

BTW, I don't know what happened years ago. I was once jamming with a friend, and I was using a cheapie One Spot. I think there may have been a peak or something at his home, and it fried my One Spot. Ever since that, my TS808 doesn't work on a battery, just plugged in. Don't want to further mess it up, TBH.

what chip is in it ?

and I should mention .... even if the chip can handle 18 volts .... if it's not set up to do so ... the protection diode will most likely get torched .

and then the pedal " no worky "

I think the JRC 4558.

It's the RI. I bought it like 15 years ago.

Well, I just tried it, and nothing blew up. I don't know if it's going to be OK in the long run, though.

Nevermind, just opened it up. The caps say they're rated for 16V. So extended use is probably going to blow it up, no?

might ..... might not .... but if you have caps that are 16 volt rated ..... they probably only planned for 9 volts to be " surging " through there

There is an Xotic FX charge pump that is adjustable to 15V. I might get that because it did sound FAT when running at 18V.

Or I'm going to check all the caps. 12V might be a safer bet.

Not worth the risk unless you really don't care about frying the pedal lol

At 15 or 18V?

I did try it at 18V, and it sounded great, actually. But yeah, on the long run, it's probably going to fry it.

At either; run the pedal at 9 volts. It sounds great that way too lol

send it to me ..... I'll beef up the electrolytics for you .... and then you can run it at 18 volts without worry

Isn`t the Maxxon OD808x supposed to be the 18V Version of the OD808?

Not sure, but I have the 9-series od9+ and st9+ and they both have the charge pumps to run at 18v from a 9v source.
I usually just keep them at 9v though. IMO the difference is very slight and I actually prefer the 9v in most cases.

No, I don't think so. I remember people mentioning the 808X actually bared little resemblances to the 808 circuit-wise when it came out.

Was the difference that profound when you ran it at 18v? I have tried pedals that can run at 9 and 18 volts and the difference always seemed negligible.

I’m not doubting, just wondering what I’m missing or if I’m wrong about it.
