Seems like so much of the tone sucking issues depend on the amp being used. I've got 2 units an original silver that I bought first and now leave at the the studio for rehearsal and a red limited I use for gigging. I use them in a 4 cable setup. When I first got the silver I was using my old 5150 block letter. I had no tone sucking issues, hum or noise issues with this combination. I use a Line 6 G50 wireless into a Crybaby 95Q wah that act as a buffer. I switched to 5150III's shortly after they came out and integrating the
G-System with it was a breeze. I didn't have to change any G-system global settings if I rememeber correctly. Is it a perfect unit? By no means. If there's one out there please let me know. I'm not thrilled that phase and flanger and chorus are in the loop. I would prefer them in front of the amp. But I generally don't use chorus I use the detune +9,-9 setting for my stereo setup. I hardly ever use phase and flange but I have an old script phase 90 I keep in one of the G's loops if I do want phase. I think the delays and reverbs are top notch and that's mainly what I use the unit for. Ditching my rack setup and having everything on the floor is what I dig the most and no more tap dancing is a godsend. 1 button pressing to switch patches, amp channels, on/off of extrenal pedals in loops is awesome. I used a G-Major, GCX and Ground Control Pro before I got the G and I much prefer this set up. But, to each his own. I think the G is a great unit when combined with the right amp. Just my opinion.
