Can someone fill me in on the Uberschall?

I tried one once (briefly) and hated it.
(I think through a cab with 75W Celestions.)

I've heard though that there are different versions with different personalities?
(and obviously the Twin Jet is different.)

Not that I need more amps, just curious.

Do they do more than super tight metal?

Sounds like the Twin Jet & Rev 2 are the ones I would like.
I'm pretty sure I tried the orignal version.

Listened to a few clips, almost reminds me of the red channel on the 100b.

It sounds really thick.

I'm trying to find clips with more "standard rock" and not over the top metal and
that seems few and far between. :-)

To me its more of a rock amp than a metal amp as I found the low end didnt stay ultra tight but I play faster death metal on in B standard or drop A 70% of the time.

For more straight forward rock it sounds great, loved it with my sixes.

If you search youtube for "bogner uberschall russellconner", you'll see several clips i've made with my rev 2. They cover quite a few different sounds.

All of them are standard tuning with no boost or effects. Please note they were recorded with a digitalcamera or phone camera.

THIS IS THE CLIP FOR ME!!!!!
THats pretty much what my TJ sounds like. Although I've never played any uber other than my TJ, I suspect the differences are over analyzed and blown out of proportion.

To me, Ubers sound like a better recto. Tighter, and a pinch dryer, but over all some of the same sounds.

Agreed, the clip above sounds a lot like my Twin Jet. I too think the differences between the models are over-exaggerated. The main difference is that the bigger bottles seem to hold together the low end/low mids better, with more overall clarity...EL34's have more sag and remind me more of Recto in terms of feel and response.

I dislike the twin jet because there is an adherent clean top end that cannot be dialed out from either channel. The amplifier is super expensive to not have usable cleans, and the tonality can be grating on your ears if it is the only amplifier you own.

Rev 2 was much more musical when I played it. Sinister is a good way to describe James Lugo's Rev 2. We had a long discussion that night after the ampfest had ended. The amplifier has a saggy tonality but didnt feel saggy at all when I was playing it at band volumes. In fact, it tract as tight as the fortin bones we also had there, but not so tight that it didn't make you feel comfortable playing leads without a boost in fear of no sustain or obvious error annunciation.

The only things that I can point out that might be a deal breaker for the Rev 2 for users would be the emphasis that it needed serious volume before waking up/giving up the goods due to the sheer amount of pre-gain and the dark voicing which would make it a hassle to dial in for those who prefer bright amplifiers or bright tonalities.

Other than that, the Bogner Rev 2 was my personal favourite at the ampfest we had at his studio. This is among the fortin bones, two friedman modded marshalls, a rack SLO, a triple rec, and even my own modded 5150 II.

Well, thats kind of more opinion. I personally couldn't give a crap about cleans, I bought the TJ for metal. I think it's pretty cool, "Twin Jet" as in two gain channels. Which, ch1 can clean up pretty well anyway, especially with the later factory mod on the gain taper.

One of these days I'll pick up a rev 2 and find out for myself.

The taper mod wasn't really for cleans as much as it was the inability to keep a clean tone at higher volumes when volume matching channel 2 of the Twin Jet. When you begin pushing both sides at band volumes the taper was needed to keep the non-linearity of the clean channel from becoming distorted or lacking enough drive before becoming an overdrive.

The Rev 2 has none of the problems associated with the first channel, and with the second channel dialed back you can still get that marshall-esque type of tone that some people hear in the first channel. James was able to demonstrate for us how to set it up on his rev 2 in order to get that same type of sound.

Different tastes.

Bogner Rectifier
I've made that comparison myself, claiming that my TJ and 2ch rectos were in the same ball park, many disagreed.

Had a Rev 2, Blue, and TJ.

The Rev 2 is best for recording/studio applications, just imo. It has the biggest sound but also the darkest and most challenging (for me) in a band mix although I've heard others do just fine with them in that capacity.

The Rev Blue is brighter and a just a tad less wide, but those small adjustments made it easier to fit into a mix.

The TJ was the tightest of them all again for me and just imo, it's the first Uberschall that didn't make me think about experimenting with a boost. But it's re-voicing made some think it lost some of it's Uberschall identity and almost become another amp...

I enjoyed them all.

I ha either the 2nd or 3rd version many years ago. Very fun amp. Huge and aggressive but for me a one trick pony. If i wasn't going for the Brootalz then forget it. Oh and i didn't like the Twin Jet I tried. My 2 cents

This was my experience as well. None of the things you try to dial out of a recto, and all the things you like about a recto, just better. If I could get by with just 2 channels, I'd be using one. Love the gain channel.
