I am serious because I know myself, I have a difficult time sometimes dialing in new amps to get the sound I want.

I was wondering if someone here can make a video showing how to dial in a amp for mostly high gain stuff but anything would be cool, low gain, medium gain, clean etc... Marshall, Mesa amps whatever etc and explain what you are doing when you dial in the amp. Like "I am not hearing enough mids so I am going to turn up the mid knob to 2 O'clock" or something to that effect.

I have not found any such video on Youtube.

I know I would like to show a video like that to a few guitarists I know who have no idea how to dial in a amp.

Thanks in advance if someone actually does this.

that's actually not a bad idea !!

Where is AxeMe when we need him...

Seems reasonable. Just start everything at 12 o clock and tweak them from there.

Someone should definitely do this. I have a Mesa and I have Marshall voiced amps but not an actual Marshall. Huh....maybe!? If someone else doesn't step in by spring break when I have more time, I'll do this thing.

I think the more people we have do this with more of a variety of amps and tones the better.

Remember yo use your ears when dialing tones. . .not your eyes.

Definitely would be part of my tutorial as well. :D

Sometimes twist to an extreme so you can get an idea of what effect is really happening.

Notice how turning the mids u or down really effect say the treble or presence. They interact a lot.

Do you really just need someone to hold your hand. Anger Rising AHHHHHHHH AAAhhnahhhhhhhhhhhhhh AAANNHHHHHHHNN

This is kind of what I do but it takes me a long time, I got no problem dialing in a amp I am just slow... I just like to see how other people do it.

For example I know other people that are really good at dialing in amps, they can get a crap amp to sound decent and they can do it quickly I just want to see it explained on a video so I can always go back and refrence it try to get in their thought pricess and listen to what they are hearing when they are adjusting the knobs... instead of me by myslef turning knobs like an idiot for 30 minutes till I figure it out.

All you need is a good amp. I dial all of my amps at 12:00. Marsha, SLO and XTC. Most common mistake is to cut the mids and dial too much bass and gain.

I think we are getting derailed, I am not asking for help dialing my own amps in or how to do it. I want to see how people dial in their amps for their tones.

I kind of want to do this to give myself ideas for different tones. The funny thing is on Youtube a lot of people dont know how to dial in their amps.

but you Rig Talk guys sure do so I am interested to see what you guys are doing.

I got shitloads of amps, all good, I just want to get the most out of them. I no longer have easy access to my other musician buddies that would help me dial in my stuff so I just kind of want to actually see what other people are doing for the types of music they play.

This is what I do. I will also play and have a friend work the dials so I can get a little distance between me and the amp.

Well I think a couple of things:

First they are probably very familiar with the type of amp and circuitry in specific types. So they instantly know about where they like stuff.

Second they have developed a good ear to know what is missing to them so it is easy for them to add and subtract.

I would think a video would be very amp type specific - not to mention what speakers, style, etc.

I have the hardest time with this...I am obsessive with prime numbers so my 6505 is a pain. I like my pregain at 5...but I can't do it so I have to do 4 or 6. Presence is the same way but at 7...I'm odd, I know. The Bogner is nice because I have no numbers

repeat for the other controls; do the opposite when it's too much
In my rig, I engage tube stack to the on position
