I was listening to some mule this morning and i remembered seeing a module said to sound a bit like an SLO. I know warren haynes has the depth mod on his but are any of you guys setting the gain lower and getting a warren haynes tone?

Ha - I thought you were going to say Warren DiMartini and the answer is

I think you could do close to a Warren Haynes tone w/ the EG5 and right EQ'ing.

Wrong Warren. Warren Haynes is more COD IMO. Think more Warren Dimartini.

Hey, no prob. it's just "Lack of Communication." :D

Being a total Warren Haynes fan, I would say no. I had several conversations with Mike Soldano when I ordered my past 3 SLO's ( Used to be my main gigging amp ) They offer the Warren Haynes mod, which is a mini toggle next to the bright and clean/crunch toggles, and what it does is lower the amount of treble response and gain on the overdrive channel. Warren runs his gain at about 3 1/2 to 4 on the gain control, which actually is a fairly low gain setting. He just cranks the amp to get that power tube distortion. He also runs a straight ENGL cab with vintage 30's.

I have found that I need a little more gain because I play in small clubs at lower volumes. I can get pretty close using my SL2 with the gain set at 11 O'clock, treble and presence at 11 O'clock. mids at 1O'Clock, and Bass at Noon. No reverb as well. As far as getting the leslie simulation tones, I used to run the H&K Rotosphere just like he does, but found the DLS Rotosim was comparable with less noise. I'm sure he deals with the noise some other way.

Hope that helps

Also being a fan, don't forget that the new Mule comes out today!

Granted I have not tried this, but if Warren is just using an SLO with the gain and treble rolled back, I see no reason why you cant get close with the EG5 by doing the same.

My thoughts exactly. The EG5 can be very SLO-ish.

that was the reason i initially asked the question, i was thinking if the EG5 had the characteristics of the SLO then turning down the gain a bit would get you there. i can also see where it might be easier, considering he cranks it, to use a different module and not have the gain so low and maybe not change the characteristics as drastically. Warren's tone to me sounds like a higher gain amp with the gain low and cranked, which is exactly what it is, but there is also a good bit of clarity in being able to hear all the strings and notes, where as turning the gain down on some higher gain amps just turns into mush

I get a great SLO100 tone out of my Mr Scary Module..modded by Jaded Faith

And the same with Pete's modded Mr. Scary.

I feel like it's there, turn the gain down to almost none and work from there.

I've had luck warming the EG5 up by adding a 1000pf cap on the tube board. It's actually the cap I swapped out on the EG3/4 for brighten that module up a bit. Warms up the tone a lot. Might want to try that.
