Forgive me for such a subjective and newb question as one of my first posts - I change my mind far too much and I am far too indecisive to make any firm decisions on things, so I basically just want the people that know more than me to tell me what kind of rig/setup to get.
I'm looking for a real "analog" metal rig (I will be using DI's and VST's for recorded tones so don't need to go that route), and I prefer no modeling (nothing against it, just prefer an analog setup and simple amp-cab config). I don't play very often, but when I do it's mostly at home so bedroom and quiet/apartment level playing are important (though in the rare chance I find a drummer to jam with or the even rarer chance I found a band to gig with down the road I'd like something that could hang in that situation also). Stylistically, I play metal (not one specific type or genre, but definitely modern/heavier stuff and less "classic" metal) but like flexibility for the other 2% of the time I want to play crunchy midgain or clean stuff (don't we all). Something that doesn't take up a ton of room (I'm limited on available space) and is fairly easily portable is important too - 4x12's out of the question, stuff easy to move like cabs with casters = yay, you get the idea. I won't be using a ton of pedals - at most a tuner, overdrive or boost, gate, delay. Basically just looking for guidance to an amp and a cab, hopefully I'm effectively conveying what I am looking for. I don't mind spending a bit to get the right or best option, but I wouldn't want to spend more than around $1000 tops for the head and ideally not more than $600-700 for a cab (open to combos if needed too but prefer the feel/response of a dedicated closed back cab).
