NO, actually you don't have a basic understanding or you wouldn't be doing what your doing. Get the manual at Mesa boogie.com and read it. You might actually learn something.

You say in your first post you don't have a cab, then later you say that you have a load hooked up...hooking the line out (which does not take any signal from the power amp part of the amp, preamp only) is not a load on the amp . If that is accurate your done right there, your computer is not a speaker load for the amp and without a load your amp will self destruct.
As we have said 10 times you MUST have a speaker or load box of some kind on the amplifiers speaker output even if you keep the master volume at zero and only use the line out. Also most likely the channel volumes (and the channel gains) will need to be up a little to get anything out of the direct out and it will sound crappy since there will be no speaker emulation so it will be thin and buzzy and not sound like an amp and cab. If you've really read the manual all of this should be very clear. Buy a POD and run that into your computer, it will sound better anyway. That amp (any amp really) is not made to do what you are trying to do, they are meant to plug into a cab and play at higher volumes. Good luck
Its not that they are sensitive....they just have too much power.thegreattailz":2vdk8ixj said:.....I just didnt think tube amps were this sensitive.

Ok though, let's be serious here. You should plug your guitar into the 4 OHM output on the amp. Your guitar has 6 strings so you can't use the 8 OHM jack, it will feedback a ton. If that doesn't work try taking the slave out and hook that into the input of a POD and crank the amp. Something should happen.

Powering on your Rectifier without a cabinet is the equivalent to walking around the gun range with your booger hook on the bang switch... .

I thought it went into the 8 ohm output? If you apply the inverse of ohms law and divide that by pie, a 6 string guitar = 8ohms. I thought everyone knew that?
