I mean, yeah use what you enjoy.

I have my tube amps, but 99% of the time I use a Cortex capture of them because it's so much easier.

Neither of my amps have an FX loop, but I can add effects easily with the Cortex. I could turn on both amps and have a complicated switcher for them, or just easily have the Cortex foot switch between them. I could fuss with a mic, or just have one Cortex output with an IR (and another to my power amp/cab).

fwiw I do prefer having analog pedals in front of the Cortex for whatever reason. Actual compressor, wah, and drive pedals sound better into the Cortex than the virtual/capture versions. That's been my compromise.

Oh, and I cannot stand playing with only an IR into some PA speaker or FRFR cab. That just does not sound or feel right. I suppose it sounds fine, but is completely uninspiring to me. I get why people do it for bands where it's a "job" or the venue just won't allow cabs on stage, though.
