I currently don't have any of these and it has been so long since I tried them I honestly can't remember. Can anyone tell me the closest speaker in comparison to the 65's ?
And what are the differences in the closest speaker and the 65's ?

Kind of like a G12T75 with slightly looser lows, tamed high end and much more midrange. Those midrange frequencies are voiced very closely to a Greenback's warm, crunchy mids. This applies to the 1777 cone G12-65, which most were. There are old 444 cone 65s out there which I've never tried but are probably killer as well.

So some guys say the greenbacks are dark on account of the warm mid thing. along with their bottom handling if I am not mistaken.. So then are the 65's darker sounding than the greenbacks ? It gets confusing to start talking speakers after talking to customers all day....

65's are darker than greenies.

65's are greenies with a bigger dustcap and hole drilled through the center of the magnet to increase power handling.

if you're a fan of the first two Iron Maiden albums, 65's are the ticket.

is there another speaker to mix with the 65's ? or are they best left to run by themselves ?

great by themselves, but mixing with 75's really brings out the best of both speakers and hides the faults of both speakers. My 2 cabs loaded with 65/75 combo's sound huge.

Okay, so maybe the last question. I have a cab with 75's and v-30's in it. I have grown fond of this mix of speakers in the last 6 months or so. How would the 65/75 split differ in sound to the 30/75 cab in sound ?

I'd rather pair the 65's with V30's. You could not pay me to use G12T-75's. I hate them with a burning passion deep within my loins.

I feel the same way about V-30's, but a lot of it has to do with what amps you ware using. With my amps, a V30/G12-65 combo would make for one hell of a mid-heavy "honky" cab.

i wouldn't mix 65's with 75's or v30's, but that's just me.

for me 65's are old school, and should be mixed with English greenbacks, Webers, or Scumbacks.

and yes 65's stand on thier own just fine.

That is a nice mix, but it's essentially pairing 2 speakers with a very similar thing going on.

+1 on 65's standing on their own.

Not 100% sure, but this is most likely either G12-65's or G12M's.

How would a pair of these fare in a 2x12 with a 50 watt boosted Marshall for playing old school metal (Priest, UFO, Accept, etc). I've never used them.

I haven't had them in a 2x12, but that's essentially what I go for with my boosted JMP 2203 into my 1960A with the G12-65s. Very accurate '80s metal tones. I'd imagine the slightly reduced size of the 2x12 may result in somewhat reduced bottom end; however, the 1960A isn't the most solid cabinet in the world and I'm sure some oversized 2x12s on the market like Bogner or Stone Age would help with that.

If anyone is looking for G12-65's, I will be pulling a quad out of my Marshall cab from the 80's. Looking to sell or trade them.

Love the G12-65s! Heritage reissues rock! So smooth and warm....just amazing. The perfect guitar speaker.

I am curious if they mix well with anything though!?
