Celestion G12-65 type speakers, what amps?

I am gasing for a set of Warehouse ET-65 speakers (Celestion G12-65 clones). I have had a Weber 1265 in the past and run it with my marshall 2553.

I am just curious how the G12-65 type speakers work with amps over than marshall's.

I have a Mesa Mark IVA, Fender SF Bandmaster Reverb, Fender Brown Super, and Vox AC50.

So any experience bad or good with G12-65's with amps over than marshalls, please let me know. Right now my 212 has CL80's and its a pretty versatile cab but doesn't work them best with the Vox or the Fenders....

I love those speakers but best paired with brighter amps and ones that don't push too much low end.

I'm running a pair of ET-65s mixed with Vet30s with a Diezel Herbert and Mesa Mark III. I love them for both amps, clean, dirty, or high gain. I had them in the open back side of my Road King cab and now in my Mills Acoustic cab with the Vets. I've got no complaints.

Good to hear, sounds like they will work for my mark IVA then.

My 212 is a closed back 212, for what that is worth.

I finally sprung for some Warehouse ET-65's. So far I am really liking them. I think they are improvement with my Silver jubilee over the Classic Lead80's I was running. The ET-65's have less lows, more mids, and less highs than the CL80's. They seem a bit warmer too. I didn't notice as much of a volume drop as I though (should be a 4dB difference). The ET-65's don't seem to be quite as clear, but with the less highs, I notice no fizz in the treble range, like I did with the CL80's. I only hear a bit of fizz when I run my silver jubilee at softer volumes, when you turn it up it goes away.

I also tried the ET-65's with my mesa mark IV and liked them there too. I think I prefer the CL80's with the mark IV, but the ET-65's sounded good too.

BTW the cab is a Marsahll 1936 212 copy I built out of plywood, closed back....

the 65's i played through did that same thing with a 5150.

less fizz, no fizz at higher volumes, gave it a very awsome marshall growl. on something like an open D chord.

but, the mid-range of those speakers do not go well with a 5150, theres a huge mid-hump thats very displeasing to hear. with that said, the low end just wasnt there anymore either, my 5150 cabinets sounded much better.

glad you like them though, they had their ups and downs when i owned a vintage 1986 4x12 cabinet with the originals. i think some amps take well to them, others fight the speakers.

I have a set of original 65's from 1979, in an early 70's Marshall 4x12 cab. They sound fantastic, and i really like them!

They definitely have a unique tone to them which i don't hear in other speakers. My fav's are actually my 1978 Blackback H30's w/55hz but whenever i fancy a change for something a little different, the 65's are my next best choice.

The don't have as much low end as say a H30, and they can't handle as much of it either. But the upper midrange is where these really shine. Slightly smooth sounding in the treble frequencies, but still have plenty enough bite to make them cut through in a band mix! Killer sounding speaker!

On the other side of things... For clean tones, they can not be beat IMO. With a Hiwatt style amp set to just below breakup, these speakers give some of the most spanky clean sounds that sound so rich its unreal!

I run the ET 65's with my Lynchbox Randall modular....it sounds killer.....with my other amps I use Scumback M55 Greenbacks, but the lynchbox sounds way better with the 65's
