Hey guys,

So you probably remember my previous post about the Carvin X100b with the blow speaker. I went ahead and got two V30s to throw in my cab. My cab is front loading, which makes it a little more annoying. I took out the blown speaker, but I can't tell how they were wired in before. Someone had rewired it so that I could play through three speakers as opposed to 4. I don't want to guess whcih way i should wire it for fear of blowing speakers.

Do any of you know how the carvin cabs are wired out of the factory, and if not, which way would you recommend wiring the speakers? I'm just afraid I'm gonna ruin these new speakers.

Side note: I'm gonna replace two speakers (one blown and one not). As far as the non-blown speaker to replace, does it matter? Would the v30s sound better next to each other, or vertical, or anything like that?

I have a quad of V30 and they sound really good but I also have a 2x12 with Legend V12 which also sound great but they make the V30 sound a bit scooped.

The only combo I have used was V30 x G12T-75 like the Uberkab and they sounded great together. I'd say experiment but be sure the volume db are close together. You don't want 2 speakers completely overpowering the other 2.

I heard the Invective clip with a V30 and a H75 Creamback together and it sounded great and seemed like a good balance.

Also, I have no idea why someone would wire only 3 speakers. I guess if one is blown then ok but getting the ohms to match sounds like a headache. I would just use all 4 speakers.

I did see an article out there discussing 3 speakers but that's beyond me.

They are all 8 ohm speakers (2 70 watt and 2 60 watt). My amp has a switch to change the load from 4, 8, or 16 ohms.

What are the benefits to doing it parallel vs series etc? The way it looks right now is that every speaker is wired back to the amp (positive and negative), they don't seem to be wired to each other.

Disregard how anything is currently wired. Disconnect it all and rewire. You will have to do a combination of series and parallel wiring (two speakers wired in parallel, wired in series to two speakers wired in parallel) to get a 8 ohm impedance.

Give me about a half hour and I'll post a picture in this thread.

I actually typed that backwards now that I think about it. It is two speakers wired in series, wired in parallel with two speakers wired in series.

So just so I am getting this right, I should set my amp at 8 ohms, and it should all be good? And this is considered series/parallel?

Maybe someone can chime in here. The Scumback link LP Freak posted it shows for two 8 ohm speakers in a 2x12 wired in series totaling 16 ohms. Says black wires are negative but shows the black jumper wire going from one negative terminal from one speaker the positive terminal on the other. I`m guessing thats the correct wiring ?

yup.. 8 ohm + 8 ohm (series)= 16 ohms

You can experiment. People may claim different ohm total = different sound.

I have my two cabs wired at 16 so I can run them both at 8 ohms if I want to use them at the same time. If you have two cabs that may be something to consider.
