Figured I'd do a couple of clips of my Yeti. I totally dig my Molecular, but the Chupacabra and Yeti were the ones that first got me CeriaCurious, So I had to pick one up. It's running Tung Sol EL34's in it but I haven't checked the preamp tubes yet. It also has a half power switch on the back and the buffered loop with a switch to turn it off and on. Used my same recording rig as normal. Stock First Act, Peavey Sheffield 1200 speaker, SM57 into iRig Pre HD.

This first really quick video is without the diode clipping switch engaged.

This one is with the milder of the two diode circuits engaged. The pussy trimmer knob on the back is at noon.

This one is the more aggressive of the two diode clipping settings.

I really like it. I think it's more raw and aggressive than the Molecular. The two gain knobs and two two way bright switches are a bit more of a hassle to set just right compared to a single gain knob and single two way bright switch on the Molecular, but it also opens more tonal combinations. Without the diode clipping the Molecular has more gain on tap. I can also max out the gain on the Molecular and it won't fart out or get sloppy in the ass. The Yeti has a better high high volume crunch imo. With both gains about 2 o'clock and both bright switches on (no diode clipping) it can get super loud rocky and it likes a boost to bring out more. With the diodes engaged it's a really killer amp for really saturated type tones.

What do the 50w yeti’s go for these days ? I have one in a sour mash Marshall replica headshell I may be letting go before long. It just sits around collecting dust these days. This one was done by nik with 6550’s in it

It's a great amp, but very picky with speakers and pre tubes and not as easy to set right as one may expect. Once you find the way to get what you want it's plenty of fun tho.

That's one thing that kills me about Ceriatone is option paralysis. I know the yeti, chupa, and molecular are relatively close so I always bounce back and forth on grabbing something then I end up not getting anything.

But I did put a Molecular on order today. Since they aren't building yet he let me make 3 payments on it. Worse case scenario if I don't dig it I shouldn't have too hard of a time getting rid of it.

Sounds great, what guitar and pickup were you using in that second clip ?

Both of those used the same guitar.

First Act guitar. Stock pickup. It’s a low output humbucker. Only thing I’ve done to it is rip out the tone knob and put a wood veneer on the pick guard. It’s been my #1 guitar for about 8 years or so.

Sounds awesome! Those are great amps, and you get soooo much for the money. Have fun playing with yourself!

Yeah, I'm really diggin them. Remember the day after I bought it I was seriously considering selling it because my old amp was made available to me. Turns out I was able to sell some other stuff and keep it. I'm still going to have a gear purge in the nearish future. I have too many amps. I like them all, but it really makes no sense to me to keep them all. But I'm having fun with them in the meantime.

Did you find out which preamp tubes the baby has?

Yup, all three were TungSol gold pin. Pulled those out and put a JJ in V1 and PI, and a EH in V2. Sounds even better now. Still have a little rolling to do though.

That's weird cause I pulled out the JJs (in both V1 and V2) cause they sounded a lil dull and compressed in the high mids. Nice gain and body, but lacked spark. Never tried with an EH in V2 tho, it should add some spark and spank, gotta try!

All in all it's a great amp, and EQ controls work far more than many 'shalls I've played. It's a lil dark sounding if you disengage the bright switches with respective gain lowered, but hey, cannot be perfect.

The previous (original) owner put in the Tung Sol gold pins and Tung Sol EL34's . Today I swapped the tubes around a little bit. I put the Electro Harmonix 12AX7 in V1 and JJ's in V2 and the P.I. slot. I also put in a pair of JJ 6CA7's. Another improvement to me. Sounds really good. It already sounded really good, I think it's a bit meaner now without the diode circuit engaged. It's really mean and nasty with the ERA switch in either position.

Mmm so it takes well EH pre tubes, I never tried them in the Yeti, gotta give em a shot!

BTW I noticed you keep the master crazy high for bedroom playing, your neighbours must hate ya :D

If you want more of an angry grind, you can raise NFB resistor to 47k and lower slope resistor to 33k.
This is more effective than rolling tubes and it's way cheaper. Two resistors only cost about $1.00 ;)

In the vid it sounds plenty aggro, my Yeti doesn't sound quite as bright with the same settings, might be due to the speaker as the peavey1200 should be a very very bright speaker

I have no experience with that speaker. This is what a slightly modified Yeti sounds like though (not me).

Sounds super evil! Maybe a tad more modern as well? Dunno youtube doesnt help :D

Have to say that most the Yeti clips I hear online always sound good and mean. Always wanted to try one, maybe get one used, but I’d like a better loop on it and maybe a solo boost.

Oh the amp has plenty of an angry grind to it. Taking out those Tungsol Gold pins brought brought it out. I'm talking about without the diode clipping engaged. just popped in some tubes I had laying around. The Peavey Sheffield 1200 is the speaker they put in the 5150 cabs. Supposedly modeled after EVH's old ass Greenbacks. I've never really read any positive comments on them online, mostly the "blanket over the cab" type comments.  But I like them and I wouldn't consider them overly bright.

So the loop I have on mine is the Buffered loop Nik offers. Has a switch on the back to turn it on/off. I'd say it's fine but it doesn't like my Vox Delaylab. My Molecular doesn't like that pedal either. Neither did my PRS Archon. Also gotta make sure the loop cables aren't near the power cable(again like my old Archon) or there will be some hum. Not a big deal to me and it might not even be the amp. My house was built in 1904 and has old/bad/not grounded wiring in parts of the house. I'll get around to that one of these days.

Yeah, I've been wanting to try one for a long time. I just had to buy one in order to do that. I like it a lot but I don't know how long I'll keep it. I certainly don't need it. I actually have a couple of amps I love that I'll eventually let go. But I'm gonna have fun with it while I do have it. At least now I have first hand experience with it and I know for sure I like it.

Maybe it's the volume, due to things (at rehearsal I use a different amp with the band, and now COVID doesnt help) it's been a while since I turned up the master like that :D Also I rarely played the amp without the diodes engaged, sounds meanier than I'd have thought.
