I got clearance from admin to post this. Not a for sale thread, although I will be selling it. Not through this thread however.

I own a 2005 Charvel San Dimas with the pointy headstock. Two humbuckers, ebony fretboard. It has two necks however. When it shipped the neck broke. I sent it to the Chubtone who fixed the neck and put a stinger paint job on the back of the original neck over the repair. Chubtone also built me a second neck with same specs, but with a Chubtone profile. It's about .80 at the first fret and .85 at the 12th. This is the neck that's on the guitar now because I liker the profile better. I also have the repaired neck that will be included with the sale and I also have pics of it. There is a teeny ding at the tip of the point which is also pictured.

If I were to list this guitar, what would be an appropriate price?

I'd ask $1K but in the current used guitar overstocked inventory you'd be lucky to get $800 in my opinion.
Any higher asking price and people might as well buy new. I just went thru that scenario.
Musta taken a pretty bad tumble as scarf joint necks are hard to break.
If you sell on reverb you're gonna take a bath.

There are a couple on Reverb from that era. Used sold for 1695 plus shipping. There's a live listing for 2100 for an HSS model which I think is too high, and it doesn't have a Floyd.

Les pauls lose 30 to 50% asking price for a break.

But, considering the 2nd neck and all, id go with 25 to 30% off what'd sell for without the break.

This might be one of those items that lends itself to the true 'auction' format. I totally get that the used guitar market is pretty saturated. But the number of true USA Made San Dimas guitars is finite. And all you need is one buyer who really appreciates what you've got to close the deal. FWIW - I think the single volume in line with the bridge humbucker and a 3-way toggle is the COOLEST control layout.

Chubtone is such a well known and respected commodity that having a Chub neck is zero issue to me - but I get that it would dissuade buyers looking for a 'numbers match' example. This is like talking values for a 'numbers matching' muscle car vs a VERY well built pro-touring car with all DSE components. Purists cringe at the pro-tour car (hell, many say the car is 'ruined') but there's a lid for every pot and someone out there will jump on it because the build is done with no wait time.

Everyone on this forum knows you and knows what an awesome seller you are and how well you care for you gear. Straight sale with the full story and the Chub neck? I'd have no problem paying $1,250 - $1,500 for this guitar. But if you listed it as an 'auction' on eBay, you may see bidding jump in the closing 10 minutes of the listing.

Sucks about that neck, incredible guitar. My dumbass sold the one I had and definitely one of two gear regrets.

I bet you can still get $1,500 or better. Mint, no broken neck probably $2,500.

Theyre pretty rare and pretty high end for Charvel production.

If i were buying, which i can't. I would want details on the break. If it was clean and chubtone repaired im willing to bet it is sturdy with no issues.

If you want a quick sale then I dont know. 🤷‍♂️ these are pretty sought-after imo.

That's a sexy guitar.....more black is black. I can never figure out actual selling values for the modern USA Made Charvels, so no help there. (Heck, the older ones seem to fluctuate quite a lot, and I can't figure out what they sell for vs. the outrageous prices people ask for them.)

Good luck.

I think I'm going to ask $1700 when I list it. The guitar body and current neck are in excellent condition and there's no dings/dents. To me the current neck is better and more comfortable than the original and even feels more solid. It's an awesome guitar that sits in its case because I don't play it. Has a Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge and a Duncan Distortion neck pickup. Comes with a very nice G&G case that has a taller neck support to accommodate the tilt back headstock.

If it doesn't sell around that price I'm happy keeping it. I've had a few PMs from interested parties so I'll start there.

Keep the discussion rolling there though, please! It's very informative and I'm very appreciative

That's the idea place to be: put something up because you should get rid of it, but don't need the cash, so just wait. I moved a couple of old - but very nice - Robins that way years back. Most people weren't familiar with them, so it just took time and after months someone showed up with cash and wanted one, then later the other.

The only thing I could add is while you may be right, I wouldn't really try to use you thinking the Chubtone profile is better as a selling point.

A potential buyer may agree with that for sure but I would imagine most people interested in this guitar care more about the original neck/profile and how well it was repaired.

To me a broken neck or headstock is a non issue if its repaired well and priced accordingly. Do consider the rarity and quality of the guitar though.

I personally think $1,700 is more than fair today.

Were these originally made by the custom shop?
Yes, depending on who you ask. Top of the line production guitars some will say but these were made with the same materials by the same Luthiers as the CA custom shop from what I can find.

They did a run of these right around the Fender buy and changing factories.
