an OLD jcm 800 is probably more reliable than a lot of new amps.

Hehe
Is the PT100 more of a hot rodded plexi sound or modded jcm 800?
How about a comparison between the Suhr and the Friedman?

For all of those recommending the real thing, i thank them but don't forget what I wrote above:
It's a bit luxury for me to have one amp for one sound. If That sound existed on a channel of a channel switcher, that would be great !

I took a look at Engl amps and particularly the Steve Morse signature head.

This head seems to be the most organic and open sounding amp in their line and although it has a GREAT third channel- kind of a hot rotted plexi sound, the clean seems to be thin and uninspiring unlike a fender/JTM style clean, where you can dig in and play some blues ala wind cries mary for example..

Maybe someone with greater experience in this head (like the member here, fretmaster) can chime in and help?

Engl have a tighter feel, more modern. Very unlike an old 800. Feels harder to play IMHO. Not really suited for 80s metal. They do sound good though.

I have played an Artist, did a decent Marshall impression. That and the Blackmore are supposed to be the most open/Marshall-like of all the ENGL amps according to guys who’ve owned a bunch.

You're in the UK mate, stop fucking about and get in touch with Dan Gower, he'll handle it . He'll even source an old or reissue 800 for ya, and the sky is the limit.

Not a plexi. The original Custom Audio Amplifiers PT100 were more "modern" sounding compared to the newer Suhr PT100s.

The CAA has more bottom end than the Friedman did. I sold the Friedman but still have the CAA if that means anything.

Here's the video that got me interested in the amp years ago. Fun fact....I am the current owner of that Suhr guitar in the video.

I have to agree here. Dan is a super nice guy and you can tell him exactly what you are looking for and he will get you there. If I lived in the U.K. it would be a no brainer especially with the prices of used Marshalls on that side of the pond. Hit him up for a price list and that will give you an idea of his standard mods. It's really hard to beat a good modded Marshall.

I live in Greece actually but yeah, that would be one option.
I just want to know what's on the market (new or used) before I go with any custom modded solution.
And with the custom solution there is always that risk of low resale value, something I would like to avoid.

Resale wouldn't be a problem if it was modded by Gower.

Yeah selling a Gower is like selling a Fortin or Friedman modded amp in my book.

After a lot of searching, I think I've narrowed it down to these two contenders:
Engl Steve Morse
EVH 5153 S EL34 100w (the black/gold one)

Those two sound nothing like a 800, modded or not. But hey, YMMV...

Dude, he wants a "hotrodded jcm800 tone" not a hotrodded jcm800. Try and keep up. :D

Go with the EVH.
