Nothing fancy…. Just something to drive one or two cabs at home. Tired of slaving through my heads…. Pain in the ass using the heads to do it. Or is anyone using the little pedal sized ones? Are they any good? Just curious as to people’s opinions. Thanks 🙏

The Peavey Classic Series 60 watt mono tube power amp is my favorite. 60 watts, rack mount, no resonance or presence and basic.
I try to always have one. I run preamp pedals into it or use it with my amp head for running stereo.

I am going to get the new Wampler Pedalhead when it comes out for sure.

I also have an old Mosvalve stereo SS power amp that I’ve used with preamp pedals for a SS stereo rig. I cut the rack ears off, put rubber feet on and painted it.

Duncan powerstage, orange pedal baby, older rocktron velocity, art sla, EHX makes a few pedal power amps. Harley benton has both a rack and smaller pedal, Carvin. Hard to find the tube power amps on the cheap anymore.

Any of the peavey classic series as bubbastain mentioned are great

I use a Rocktron Velocity with my Kemper and it's worked great. Only downside is the fan noise.

Which poweramp is best for your purposes depends on what youre powering.

I have one of these. I've never pushed 4x12s with it but I think there are videos on the Youtubez with people doing it.

Damn! Just looked on Reverb and the Peavey power amps have gone up a lot. Same with the Mosvalve. I guess I’d buy something new rather than pay those prices.

There’s this

The Orange Pedal Baby seems cool too.

Not familiar with these but depending on how much you want to spend, you can find good deals on KSR PA50 lunchbox size power amp. I’ve seen them used as low as $650-$700 which is still more than the solid state ones I believe. But they do sound great.

You know I have noticed with amps usually bigger is better. Just because it can go to 11 doesn’t mean you have to crank it up to 11…

Yeah especially for SS you want more power....

Honestly just get a used Katana Artist mkll or mklll. 100 watts, good speaker and that power amp reacts like a real amp.

Compared one next to a Princeton Reverb and used the Artist Mkll as a Power Amp with pedals...... Honestly I was astonishingly surprised. If youre looking for power and a solid "amp like" power section check this out as an option. You can go straight into the power amp and bypass all the BS or go through the front if you want too. So it's like your getting 2 4 1.

For the utility it cost a song especially given the quality. You can also go for the head version. And if you go Katana go Artist, the standard models just aren't as good in either power section or in general.

Nope 👎. Done using heads or combos to run my pre’s… want a plain stereo power amp… probably grab an old pv or something….

I mean if it's the older tube power amp ones those are solid.

Orange also makes a good one too called the Pedal Baby and it's a class A/B amp. If I was going for something like that that would be on the top of my list in regards to a stand alone Poweramp that is very amp like.

I have seen them but haven’t really looked at them. Wonder how loud they are?

100 Watts but if it's anything like the Katana Artist it's a loud ass 100 watts for SS. I honestly thought SS power amps were garbage until I played the Artist Mkll and the new Class A/B power sections of these amps if they are anything like the ones in the Boss Artist are good.

The older SS Peavey stuff just can't compare but yeah I wouldn't frown on a Classic 60/60 Power amp or whatever.

On my Katana Artist in 5 watt mode, it keeps up with the Princeton Reverb Reissue or AC15 and that is a loud ass 5 watts and loud 100 watts in general for SS, thing also behaves like real amps should in the power section. If you get a chance check one out at a local store and see what you think with something like a RAT and an SD1 or TS9 as the test.

These new class A/B amps really are that good and I wouldn't be surprised if you fell in love with the Orange if it's anything like the Boss Artist stuff. Its that good and well keeps up with tubes IMO.

YMMV
