No ocean. Straight up hum. More of a buzz

I don't get that with mine, unless my guitar is near a computer monitor or a TV. Just beautiful, relaxing ocean sounds. Maybe a few sea birds calls would be nice as well.

Buffer on is perfect. You are right about the ocean sound. Sea bird calls huh?

Don't want to spam, but there seems to be some confusion about the output impedance of our EP-PRE.

Early EP-PREs did have high output impedance, just like the original EP-3. We tried conventional emitter follower buffers, but found that they reduced the effect of the preamp. We have never received any reports of hum, but we found couple of delay pedals with low input impedance that could drag down the output of the EP-PRE, making it sound muddy.

In mid 2011 I designed an output driver that reduces the output impedance without affecting the tone. Since then, our EP-PRE has much lower output impedance, capable of driving almost anything.

I have the old higher output impedance one...I can work with it. But, are you saying the Ep Pre (not the +) has a low impedance output now? Or do you have to buy the + version, for say a 15 foot cable run to an amp?

Yes, the current version of the EP-PRE has a similar output impedance to the EP+, but without the extra boost. The first stage is exactly the same as the original EP-PRE The "no boost" output driver design was an offshoot from development of the EP+.

That's good, it should make the pedal easier to use on a pedal board. Still really digging the original unit.
